Despite all the hate from ATS folk, nearly all or completely all who will never raise a finger to help South Texas, Joel remains someone who people feel brings them closer to God.

And if you haven't listened to him before, I suggest you do. The man has the gift of voice unlike any I've ever heard.

I'm not a Christian, per se. But he does move me every time I hear him, and millions of others.

Do any of you thick headed fools consider THAT might be the reason he's successful?

Such hate on this forum.

This man has shown himself to be a complete scumbag, guess some are there scumbagging with him.

"Bringing people closer to God" does little for someone whose house is flooded.

I hear this argument a lot raised in defence of thieves and conmen who use religion to legalise their crimes.

Osteen is almost as bad as Peter Popoff.

Joel Osteen is five hundred men better than you and has helped more people on this planet than you ever could or will.

Is he a frigging emergency management specialist, you twit? Do you realize there's more to "helping" people than just opening doors? Once inside, how do you deal with that many people? How do you feed them? Are sanitation systems working properly? Do you remember how bad the Dome in NO was?

You don't even think, do you? You just get an emotion-driven thought in your head and run with it!

Have you got a source for this info, or just more scumbag slinging crap?

Talk is cheap. Action speaks louder. To use that old phrase, what would jesus do, Joel?

I'm not required to forgive him. In not allowing him to harm me, or mine, he's done me no harm. I can, however, though, as you say, it's been done in fairly obvious fashion, help to expose him for what he is. A charlatan. He sells indulgences as they did as far back as the church itself has existed.

Well Mr. Mega Church Pastor, they're calling now. Yes or no?

Mayor: Houston is looking for another "major shelter"

City officials thought they might be hosting about 1,000 people at the George R. Brown Convention Center, the largest of Houston's makeshift shelters. Now, Mayor Sylvester Turner said it's looking like the convention center will be accommodating close to 5,000 people by Monday night. That brings the total number of people in city shelters to 8,000 -- and, demand keeps growing, Turner said.

We are looking for an additional shelter location.

The mayor, may the powers help him, needs to call this scumbag out by name.

Well firstly I'd like to point out that you have no idea who I am, what I do, what I've done or what I will do in my life.

Now I like to think if I was a millionaire who owned an obscene giant church in a flooded area I'd use my wealth and property to help people.

The local church where I live managed a great deal when my area flooded a few years back.

That was just a small, fairly decrepid local C of E church in a small poor town and they managed more than the local council.

You telling me this millionaire can't do anything? He can, he just doesn't want to.

Who says he's not doing anything? The Lord works in mysterious ways, I've heard.

What part of the "Man is a Scumbag" do you not understand, especially for someone that claims to be a religious kind of guy.

Yep. Forget the whole Christianity thing about helping those that need it. Just close the doors and keep your bank balance snug.

I suppose he is sure of his place in heaven. Or was this is test?

A rich man with more than most people on the planet is given the chance to practice his preaching. Even if he lost his church by doing this, he would still be better off then most. Maybe he doesn't really believe his own words.

Why don't you try backing up and defending your comments. You add nothing but ignorance to the conversation. He has room and facilities to house a couple of thousand people, and he keeps the doors locked. Real christian attitude there. You defend him, so tells us a lot about you too.

Something good would come of Harvey if that happens.

You're right, we shouldn't be pissed, Jesus acquired a significant amount of property so he set the bar for Osteen.

Isn't there a law or something they can use to take property in times of crisis?

I mean he's not doing anything with it, he can have it back once all is back to normal.

A bunch of flood victims there would prevent the rich people from coming next Sunday and donating lots of money to him.

Most of Osteen's revenue comes from the $55 million generated annually by his book sales and speeches.

Interestingly, the man is a SMART marketer. No religious symbols are in his church or books..
