It's a wordplay joke my Belgium friend so I can understand that our Flemish and French speaking members might not understand.

Thus the reason this is in the joke forum.

Thanks to Robbeh for explaining.

ETA : if you are a French speaking "Belge" then battered would be the equivalent of Beignet.

You should have expected that the only thing I like to see deep-fried is those potatoes sticks. They call it french-fries but as a french you know where they come from ...

They don't and never called them French fries. That term is a shortened version of French fried potatoes.

It depends where you live.

If we want to go the whole hog they should be called Belgium fries as the earliest origin is in Belgium.

Here In France we commonly call them frites, in the UK chips or French Fries.

What do they call them commonly in your neck of the woods?

They're CHIPS. CALL THEM CHIPS! dag nabbit.

I was talking to a woman in missouri ordering a meal and I heard the guy say "You want chips?" and I thought "Crikey, they call them chips where she is."

after I queried her on it, she said "French fries? No, Bacon chips.."

My heart sank

THEY'RE CHIPS.... Like Fish and Chips, with a banana fritter and a pickled onion.

you language hooligans.
