I grew up watching this show. I now watch it every night in syndication on a network called Antenna T.V. Call it what you will but if your around my age 54, then it's not far from the way it really was. IMO. Watched one the other day that was hosted by Henry Fonda , a sort of "best of shows" I think this show was done in the 5th year of the show. I watch Sanford & Son as well. Timeless comedy.

I just thumbed through it for a few quotes to post..But I am afraid I might get a manners violation..there is no way they could make that show in today's climate.

So true. And so disheartening.

Wasn't that a remakeof THIS series?

Did you ever see the original?

The story goes that Alf Garnett was supposed to be in the habit of calling his wife a silly cow, but management put their official foot down. Even a working-class lady was still a lady, and not to be called a cow on the BBC. So the production team looked for a way round this edict, and came up with the classic "You silly old moo!"

I think Lear got the idea from the British show Man About the House.

If you stop the video at :22, in the credits you see it's based on "Till Death Us Do Part"

edit on 27-8-2017 by DAVID64 because: Do I really have to explain? I mean, I made a mistake and went back to fix it, so it should be a bit obvious WHY, right?

I had no idea there were pilots of this, so found the shortest clip I could find.
