Just a short rant here I wish people would put their energy into doing something about the 27 million people who are living in slavery today worldwide instead of bickering about a time which past years ago.
There are more slaves today then any other time period.
So let's help those left and right together.

"Doing something" now is hard. Whining about past wrongs is easy.

There lies the problem.

They would be spoken about if they furthered the gains of people that use it as a excuse for failings within a culture or community.

I often wondered when people who constantly bang the drum for historic events where actually going to lay it on the line and head out to the middle east etc to "help save" copious amounts of women and children caught up in the ISIS sex slave trade..

So far the silence is deafening...

you are asking them to give up the Oppression Olympics?
they aren't even half way done with it!

It doesn't matter if somewhere there is an 11 year old kid coked out of his mind with an ak47 fighting someone else's war, what matters is that a statue hurt my feelings one time maybe!

Yes, more slaves exist now than ever before.

More humans exist now than ever before.

27,000,000 out of 7,000,000,000 is a lot better than the ratio 100 years ago, as ratios go it's probably the best it's ever been.

Not to detract from the point though, it's still 27 million too many.

But then economic slavery annoys me too, oh how many souls have been lost, destroyed or incarcerated due to the plight of poverty.

Many of those 27 million wouldn't be slaves if their debt was owed to a court of the land.

A government might not take your toenails, but they sure as hell will take your wages, your house, even your precious short time you have on this Earth.

Pay your bills and fines innit?

What's minimum wage, just short of slavery
The economic leaders are hailed as heroes, wealthy giants of society, yet they pay their staff in Asia a pittance

Your heroes?

Er, no it's not. Slavery is not just being paid nothing, it's having no control of your life.

In countries that can afford the minimum wage (basically the developed world) slavery is fairly rare and confined to criminality.

Slavery in Sub-Saharan Africa, India, Pakistan and crap holes with high poverty, high corruption and where there is cultural tolerance of child marriages all have higher instances of slavery, perhaps as high as one in every 150 people. Other places like SE Asia have problems with sex trafficking and the like.

A lot ~is~ being done to combat slavery today.

The EU is doing a lot. European governments are doing a lot.

The UK passed the Modern Slavery Act in 2015. The Germans are spending a lot of money tackling people smuggling. There are a lot of very successful initiatives underway.

Doing something about slavery today gives no opportunity for African Americans to play the victim card, or for moronic SJWs to smash public property.

Well we could begin by exposing the truth. Modern Slavery is alive and well. Mega Corp exploits Immigrants, undocumented workers, illegal and otherwise, paying minimum (slave) wage and avoiding Employee Insurance, Benefits and taxes.

Pay no heed to that though, just build the Border Wall...

That's why I said
"Just short of slavery" see that?
Western societies import cheap labor and under pay them, it is slavery
7/11 were recently busted for underpaying their staff, then threatening their visas
Those staff members are not getting what they want or deserve

People can't do what they want to do in the West

I think it would help if we could figure out just how many are in slavery and where they all are...

this source says 21 million

this source says 46 million

this source agrees 46 million

Walk Free said slavery is found in all 167 countries in the index, with India home to 18.4 million slaves. This year’s index also claims that over half of the 45.8 million people living in modern slavery are in five countries: India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.

So...how to buy their freedom, and how to establish them in a position where they can support themselves? What about the ones that are in government forced slavery?

Solving the slavery problem is one thing, but preventing it from re-occurring is another thing entirely, as is setting those former slaves up to live a life of their own choosing.

What do you propose?

Not chattle slavery sanctioned by their government...

Sex slaves kidnapped and held against their will , but are forced to hide from law enforcement is an atrocity, but it is not chattle slavery like in pre civil war America or Ancient Rome..

Both are horrible but not equal..

Buy a pair of Nike shoes or an Under Armor sweatshirt, and you are supporting slavery.

Edit: and I am typing on a slave made keyboard-so listen to me.....Right?

Nah.

Slavery is when an aspect of your life is not yours but owned by another.

Slaves picking cotton fields had freedoms. They grew their own food, they could build a little shack on their poor piece of dirt. Obviously the levels of autonomy were varied, it depended a lot on their master.

Even in Roman times a slave could earn his/her freedom, it was not unheard of for slaves to be traders too, in fact it appeared to be encouraged.

It's always smart to grant slaves a little freedom autonomy, the other option is drugging them.

The peasants of yesteryear were economic slaves, forced to work lands owned by their Lord or face starvation. I won't go into details but those peasants of yesteryear could be compared to modern day poverty. Of course economic slaves of China are much harder done by than say a US parent who works 60 hours a week to pay off crippling debt but the thesis is still the same.

The individual has their hands tied due to circumstances, a US parent, a peasant of 1200AD and a Chinese sweatshop worker could choose not to play their role but the alternative leads to ruin and death.

They're all slaves.

What do you propose?

Anything short of a New World Order would fail, slavery will be doomed to it's repetitive cycle as long as people can be exploited.

Equal access, equal education, equal rights. The disassociation of finance and basic living standards.

That would do a fair amount of work towards stopping slavery. How to implement it?

I don't know...

Well if we cannot reach our voted leaders to actually start doing something about this rape of mankind, we should finally start to awaken our selfs and use our resources to inform each other in real ways, give voices to survived victims, their families, gather as live info as possible and share it to the world. we could gather resources together to hire good lawyers to fight giants and use visible pressure against oppressors.
We should also tackle other big issues with good pressure, question this ease of warfare in this world, it is madness that we are in a place that warfare seems so casual.
