Are we headed for a New Civil War? No, it's a War on History itself.

That does not answer my question.

How does removing a statue change or erase our history?

Short memories and the "winners" write the history books....or a google algorithm or something.

Wait for the book fires.

Statues and monuments can serve as reminders. If they are removed or gone they cannot serve as reminders.

It's more so the dangerous precedent this is setting. The statues are more or less pieces of historical art and does nothing tangible for anyone. So removing it has the same effect as leaving it. Why do we have to succumb to feelings? Where does it stop? Who gets to determine in the future what else is offensive?

Dangerous path and for you to just brush it off as nothing shows your lack of something..

When a statue that is of a historic figure is taken down, it is no different than an omission from a book. It is a small facet of a multi faceted gem.

A statue is history-can't believe some need this explained.

They just don't,WON'T get it.

They are targeting the last real freedom any of us have left.

The freedom to think what we want.

Couldn't tear down Trump, so instead they go after historic statues and try to make Trump complicit.

F#ing idiots.

The better question is how does the Statue rewrite history?

It makes him look good, a supposed 'bad man'.

What about Columbus? He's only even famous because of lies and fake news.

It's a pretty good example that idolizing the wrong people is easier than it looks.

I agree with that, but it does not change or erase history.

Funny really. Here's a conspiracy theory from the NWO that we've all been aware of for years, yet now its happening right before our eyes and the denial blinkers get put on.

All timed to coincide with the eclipse. Plunging headfirst into the darkness as predicted.

It's a figure of speech. It doesn't mean someone is standing there with an eraser scrubbing the history books.

You don't think statues in public places are educational?

More like a waste of public space.

Don't children look at these monuments and ask "why are they so important they made this giant thing"?

No today's kids ask why were they made to walk the way to see something they could have just as easily seen on the net.

We're being taught to hate our own history despite the fact that the very Constitution that allowed for slavery also gave us a way to end it.

America should be proud of it's history of slavery?

It's proof that we have a system that allows for change and progress.

Yes it does and the party you support keeps constantly going against it.

Destroying monuments to the past is not progress.

What's wrong with destroying monuments that were solely made to remind the black man that the white man was still in charge.

Go burn down Auschwitz. Besides it was built for the sole purpose of killing Jews and Slavs.
