F-35s complete weapons evaluation

Aircraft from the 388th and 419th Fighter Wings performed a Weapon System Evaluation Program as part of exercise Combat Hammer. The aircraft were from Hill AFB in Utah, and released various munitions at the Dugway Proving Ground range. Weapons included 2,000 lb GBU-31s.

Combat Hammer is designed to evaluate the ability to load and release various weapons. Data from the test will be used to move the aircraft towards FOC.

It's definitely starting to come into its own. It still has some problems going forward, but they're well on the way to getting them sorted out.

These exercises used to be the highlight of a pilot's career. We used to do William Tell, which was a live fire exercise to determine the best fighter unit in the Air Force, and many other competitions depending on the aircraft involved.

No A-10s at that one. Strictly air to air. It used to be a huge event for the fighter guys. They have The Raytheon Trophy now, but it isn't as big a thing.

We had Vulcans come over for some interesting exercises over the years, but the Comps were strictly US units.

Speaking of weapons evaluation, F-35s from Edwards recently completed a Weapons Delivery Accuracy surge that allowed them to complete multiple requirements under the 3F software development. Only one WDA remains to declare the software operational, which will allow IOC for all three models of aircraft.
