I guess when you're hungry, it don't matter what you eat. You can't really blame them after the way their government has failed them

"MARACAIBO, Venezuela — Venezuela authorities are investigating the theft of animals from a zoo in western state of Zulia that were likely snatched to be eaten, a further sign of hunger in a country struggling with chronic food shortages."

The animals seem to be having trouble too.

"Shortages have also left zoos without sufficient food to feed animals, with some 50 animals starving to death last year at a Caracas zoos, according to a union leader."

www.nbcnews.com...

This comes after stories of eaten flamingos from earlier this year.
How far are these people from cannibalism?

I guess the Venetians are pretty stewed over that.....

Frivolity aside, it's sad, but what would one expect in such dire circumstances. Hunger is a potent motivational reason .

Pretty sad state of affairs. A look here is a great example of what socialism turns into....innate greed of humans always wins out in tge end and the socialized structure brings totalitarian power to those who choose to go that way.

Based off the title alone... I'd say it's a little misleading. They're not 'missing'. They got ate! lol Knowing what's going on in that country, I think anyone would guess right off what happened. I'm surprised it took this long.

It's pretty sad that no one is doing anything about this. How many more people starve to death before our "great" united nations does anything about this. That's what we have them there for, right? Humanitarian work my ass.

My heart goes out to those people. As a country, I'm astonished that we're not doing more ourselves. Vigilante style action would have been taken if it was taking place in one of our own states... another country? who cares, right? Why isn't the media all over this like white on rice? Oh yeah... Getting Trump out of office is way more important.

Goes to show you the colors of every country NOT involved in this right now.

Police are "assuming" that the animals are being eaten.
Probably a good assumption.

And yeah, the United Nations is useless.
We should turn their headquarters into a homeless shelter.

I am amazed that no other nation seems to be trying to do something. Perhaps their government won't let outside assistance enter, but to treat the people like that is horrible.

Why would anyone need to? Venezuela is a perfect workers' paradise especially now that they special council has finally removed the last vestiges of the old, corrupt representational system. Everything is Utopian. Pretty soon, they will be like North Korea and no one will be fat, so they'll have that health crisis solved.

Great topic.I might be a little ignorant here.No one deserves to starve. Do they have a way to garden there. My wife & I garden all are own food, and harvest an old deer & several wild turkeys every year.

I image having a garden in the city would be difficult. Even if you managed to grow something it would get stolen.
It also takes time for vegetables to grow so it wouldn't do you much good until it ripens.

Yea im betting eaten or sold to be eaten ... i would not think twice about killing and eating anything that moved in there situation

Hunger is the one thing that can drive someone to eat there own families
