1000 mm telephoto, no filter (couldn't afford it), will only take pics with this during the Totality.

However: I've got one of those Mylar blankets that come with first aid kits. I experimented with it back in March, and 3 layers acts just like any solar filter.

So I'm going to tape 3 layers of it to the camera lens on my wife's smart phone and see what I can capture with it. Love trying things like this.

We also have a couple of the solar glasses, but I also made a couple of pin hole box viewers.

1000mm, huh, that should get you some awesome pictures. I agree about the price of filters, and I also considered a sheet of solar filter sheets (which are considerably cheaper) and making my own.

Interesting about the Mylar blanket filter: MacGyver all the way.

Cool.

Totally NOT being a creeper here but, if you get in a jam...PM me. I'm not sure how/if I could help but, I would try. I'm thinking shortcuts, where NOT to go, and etc. Anyway be safe and enjoy!

I was also just thinking having lived from New York to Florida that the heat/temps can effect people very differently. It is predicted to be sunny and warm/humid with heat indexes in the mid 90s here in middle TN. Some folks from more northern states may not be used to that so be sure to drink plenty of water and find the shade. Lots of trees here so, that shouldn't be a struggle to find shade to cool off.
Stay cool!

Not creeped out at all, thank you so much!!!

So I had to get a refund on my car reservation. When I made it through rentals.com they did not explain anywhere that the company I chose to go with does not allow their vehicles to leave the state. I have rented many vehicles over the years and traveled all over the country. So Fox car Rental is the first time I ever even knew this was a thing with some companies. It took me 42 minutes mostly on hold to get somebody on the line from the website to refund my rental coverage I paid for separately.

So be aware guys, Fox Rental does offer great rates, but you cannot leave the state you rent from unless it is into another state they have rentals.

I guess I will go with Enterprise, and leave Saturday I guess.

How would they know? Did you tell them, or are they gonna GPS you?

Good. I hope you make it safely, and the weather permits a great viewing.

They asked me where I was going. I never rented with a company that has this policy. I rented with Budget, Hertz, Dollar, Enterprise an a couple others. So this was news to me. When I drive I usually go out across the country from Florida. Learning experience, now I know.

Anyways I went ahead and rented with Hertz last night and drove up here today. I am in st. George now with the offspring. I can't wait till the afternoon. I was hoping to catch the Georgia guides tones, but thanks to fox that plan is in the wind. I was not going to use my Saturday driving all day. I am charting it now to see if there is any way to fit it in without missing the moment I came here for. But I don't think it's going to happen. Another time perhaps.

The country hearth Inn is actually really nice, and there is a taco bell right next door! Sweet!

Glad to hear that you all made it safely and found somewhere to stay.
Have a fantastic time and enjoy. Watch out for the taco bell though.

I dont have to go anywhere except the short trip to my back deck.

Same here. I'm about an hour away from the point of longest duration so I should be able to see it good.

Well, I got to enjoy 30 seconds of night in the afternoon, but the damn clouds rolled in while the sun was still pac-man, and everybody missed the ring of fire. On the plus side, the welders mask I had had a view port large enough for my phone to take a shot. I took one while it was out in full, an then one as it started to get eaten by the moon. Of course you don't really see the dark part because its a cell phone. But you can sort of see the light missing a bit from where it is covered.

Got some pictures of the crowds i front of a bi-lo, a place called Skynards was packed for an eclipse party, mcdonalds was ridiculous. Looked like they were giving away free EVERYTHING they were so crowded.

I hope you guys in Aiken county fared better than those of us who drove to St George. It was still worth it though to see it become nearly night time in the middle of the afternoon. Though. Unfortunately the Georgia guide-stones had to be cut from the trip.

Im going to throw some images up later. Hope everybody else had better luck and a good time!

We did well here in Aiken. Was worried though, lots of clouds and it even rained here at my house. Clouds off and on during the eclipse, but when it came to the moment of totality, the skies parted for us. Here's some of my pics:

Fantastic photos.
Unfortunately mine turned out crappy-ish. My daughter was able to capture a few decent ones and a fairly good video. I may post up later.
With or without photos it was an awe inspiring (to me) event and won't soon be forgotten.
My daughters and I are already planning 2024!
I get why people 'chase' eclipses.

I could not have asked for help with avoiding traffic even If I wanted to.

We arrived at 3am yesterday morning, and by 2am, we had lost all cell service to all 3 phones.

We went the whole day without a lick of service, we decided to leave at 5pm LBL time (6pm our time) and GPS said hey no worries fam, we will get you home by 1030 pm! Great! We think.......

at 1030 PM we made it to Elizabethtowne where we said SCREW THIS, even though we enjoyed the highway party for almost 5 hours, and decided to take back roads up towards Lexington, and then up to Florence, to Cinci. We got home at 230 AM.... our friends who stayed on the expressways that left at different times than us, before and later, didn't get home until after 3am.

Doom porners were right, there was a disaster.... a traffic disaster.

We are remembering this as the Great United States Migration.

The eclipse? Most glorious thing I've seen in my entire damned life.
