In either case, "white" does not belong in front of nationalist, it sends the wrong message.

Unless they are nationalists that are white and believe in maintaining their white heritage.

What's wrong with that? Why is every other heritage acceptable to maintain, yet for whites it isn't?

It's people like you who are actually creating more of your so called boogie men under the bed, Nazi's, whether you realize it or not?

Anyways, enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Yeah, well, that's exactly the crux - maintain their heritage at the expense of others'.

Take a read of Orwell's Notes on Nationalism.

Excerpt:

By ‘nationalism’ I mean first of all the habit of assuming that human beings can be classified like insects and that whole blocks of millions or tens of millions of people can be confidently labelled ‘good’ or ‘bad’(1). But secondly — and this is much more important — I mean the habit of identifying oneself with a single nation or other unit, placing it beyond good and evil and recognising no other duty than that of advancing its interests. Nationalism is not to be confused with patriotism. Both words are normally used in so vague a way that any definition is liable to be challenged, but one must draw a distinction between them, since two different and even opposing ideas are involved. By ‘patriotism’ I mean devotion to a particular place and a particular way of life, which one believes to be the best in the world but has no wish to force on other people. Patriotism is of its nature defensive, both militarily and culturally. Nationalism, on the other hand, is inseparable from the desire for power. The abiding purpose of every nationalist is to secure more power and more prestige, not for himself but for the nation or other unit in which he has chosen to sink his own individuality.

According to Orwell, "white nationalism" is a fitting term, and we should be weary of it like we would any tribalism.

Being a nationalist isn't the same as being patriotic. Don't confuse yourself into believing that you're actually a nationalist because you love your nation.

A nationalist looks at their country and sees no problems, no ills and no faults. They hold their nation higher than all others in every respect and denounce anyone who says otherwise. All of this, because it's their nation, for no other reason.

A patriot is capable of recognizing their nation's faults and can work to better their nation. They recognize other nations at being better in some regards and aspects and respect them for it. A patriot doesn't love their nation just because they were born in it.

A white nationalist is someone who believes that America was made for white people, by white people and that everything our nation does should be done in the interests of white Americans.

Ugh, another thread where we have a term, 'Nationalism', that has a meaning and now we've got the right watering it down, and misappropriating it so that all meaning is lost (kinda like how they did with 'fascism' as well) to fit their own agenda.

No big surprise that both nationalism and fascism have gone hand-in-hand on the far-right of the spectrum, and now that we are seeing them arise again on the right they want to strip historical meaning out so we can't call it what it is, and warn of what it leads to... or fight it.

Yes, nationalism is different than "white nationalism."

However, there is bleed over of "white national" ideologies into the minds of many who hold themselves out to be straight nationalists.

For example, the angst many (not all mind you) feel about Islam, to varying degrees. And Mexicans. It's not just about "border security," for many there is also an overly broad undercurrent of fear associated with specific races or religions. Some nationalists don't suffer from the same symptoms... but others do. It's plain to see on these forums every day.

The whole "Obama was a Kenyan" thing was fueled by this fear/distrust of "the other" which is so common among white nationalists.

There is also a strong preference for Christianity over other religions amongst this group.

So white nationalists ideals have bled over into plain old nationalists in ways that define the alt-right (a term coined BY the right), thus the divisions that exist today within the GOP.

If we put together a party platform for the alt-right based upon ideologies they freely acknowledge, you'd see much agreement between both types of "nationalists" on key points.

Well thanks to everyone who contributed. At least we've kept it civil. It's nice to not always have the need to use the mud pit, especially during these times.

Not all white nationalists are racists. Some of them just want to perserve their race just like how some nations want to perserve their cultures by not allowing immigrants to move in and mix the cultures.
White separatism and white supremacy are subgroups of white nationalism. Think of it using Venn diagram. Those two are the circles within white nationalism and the middle is the worse of both.

I think what you're arguing is that white nationalism doesn't have to be based in hatred of other races. That's technically true but in practice, I don't know that there are any significant white nationalist ideologies/movements that don't hold the supremacy of "the white race" as a central tenant.

White nationalism without racism I think only exists as a theoretical construct. In practice, what's lies behind the desire for a racially homogeneous society?

That is true, I've met a few white nationalists that were just about preserving their heritage and culture that had made a conscious decision to marry a white partner and have white children; who weren't racist at all but they're very few and far between.

A lot of the time white nationalism is born out of an inherent disgust and anger at other races more than a love of their own.
