How dare you have a quote from Thomas Jefferson in your sig?
I think we all know what you are ...
I don't follow.
White slaveholder, helped construct a white oppressive racist government construct ...
I think we all know what you are ...
So, for example, erecting a statue of a "famous" civil war general in the mid 1970's (close to a centennial) means that it is a 'in your face' to civil rights gains made in the US?
And if true now is the time to tear them down?
The very existence of slavery in the era of the American Revolution presents a paradox, and we have largely been content to leave it at that, since a paradox can offer a comforting state of moral suspended animation. Jefferson animates the paradox. And by looking closely at Monticello, we can see the process by which he rationalized an abomination to the point where an absolute moral reversal was reached and he made slavery fit into America’s national enterprise.

This will not stop at the civil war memorials/statues.
There will be lots and lots of other offensive things torn off buildings, cemeteries, church lawns, and private homes because of not throwing felony misconduct at the rioters destroying city property.

No just those Americans who trash the US constitution, write their own and try to forcefully take about 1/3 of US sovereign soil..
Don't forget killing 10s of thousands of US servicemen...
For a power play by southern fire waters scared Lincoln was "comming to get their slaves.."
You can remember the history and enjoy the tale without glorifying high treason...

Are you going to demand that Gone with the Wind be burned and banned from movie theatres?

Jefferson's Dark Side ... surely as woke as you are, you knew.

I mean, he was a slave owning founder nor above sleeping with his slaves on occasion. There are blacks descended from him.
Some of the other founders were also slave owners, and you count him an inspiration.
Just like some of us. Are you going to defend that piece of racist history?!
