Here's one

www.ajc.com...

That's sad but that's not comparable to tearing down statues illegally.

Agreed.

But placing them in museums is no guarantee that they'll be able to teach or be seen either.

Is it widespread? Or just flukes?

Does it matter?

It's happening.

Attending any rally with two groups bent on causing trouble is dangerous.

Don't you think it would be a bad idea to go somewhere with ANTIFA crawling out of the woodwork?

Are you saying ANTIFA is the reason for the terrorist attack at that klan rally?

I wouldn't show up anywhere that antifa shows up just for the sake of sharing space with them. They are a side-effect that shows up to counter white nationalism and fascists (who, in the case of Charllotesvill, actually bore literal fascist symbols).

The people who showed up to protest the Nazi rally was a smattering of church groups, civil rights organizations, and yes, antifa. Nobody shows up somewhere because they hope to see antifa (except for antifa folk).

No I didn't misunderstand you. I am just saying that I don't like the insinuation that it was woman's fault for getting intentionally murdered.
That is all.

Uh I know that? I know that those people knew the risks of injury and death. The point is the insinuation that the woman had it coming when someone murdered her. That looks like a justification of murder.

If this had happened to a man would anyone be comparing this to a rape or saying 'he had it coming?'

Seriously? Welcome to the 21st century. Feminism says we judge her as an autonomous person responsible for her own actions!

It's a tragedy, yes. It's criminal. I want them to investigate and convict the driver. Thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

BUT

She wasn't just walking from point A to point B. She made a conscious choice to put herself in harm's way with a group of people who were present *illegally* to cause trouble and probably get in a 'little fighting, breaking noses, blacken eyes, etc.'

Can't stand the heat? Don't walk into the fire! That's what I'd say about a guy, that's what I'll say about a woman.

Sorry.

It's cool. I think you actually misread the original post you responded to in the first place because the rest of our comments seem to be pretty much in agreement.

How long will it be before it's open season on any symbol the howling, unwashed mob of ignorant savages deems offensive because it exists?

Churches and synagogues better get some darn good security in place.

THIS. This is the slippery slope we are creating...by "we", I mean the lack of the enforcement of laws related to destruction of public property. The lack of enforcement regarding protecting the right to peaceably assemble. The right to say how you feel in public without some heathen psycho with dyed armpit hair trying to silence you with pepper spray, a bicycle lock to the head, or a bottle full of their urine in your face.

I took a class in college called the Psychology of Prejudice. Very eye-opening, and there is always a pattern followed when one group wants to marginalize and destroy another. First are the nasty innuendos and rejection.....followed by crazy stories in the media that are baseless but salacious and therefore guaranteed to be talked about......then a false flag event said to have been caused by these "horrible people". It's only a short hop to "they're evil, they're not human, they're ruining our country, they are the cause of all our ills, we are perfectly justified in hurting them, killing them, destroying their property, and eventually, just rounding them up and doing away with them (genocide)"

Thus has been the story of every war against ideas that just happen to have faces. You demonize the enemy, so you don't have to face the fact that they are human too, and have feelings, thoughts, and validity, just as you do.

I couldn't sleep last night, actually didn't get to bed until 6:30 am. I was watching local news that had a clip from a BLM / Antifa march from Los Angeles the night before. They interviewed a black woman, and she said something to the effect of "It's on, we're not taking it any more, and YOU ALL HAD BETTER PICK A SIDE."

So it's come down to this part of the standard formula to destroy a country from within. Pick a side. Do people not understand that war is a bad thing? That we have been pushed, prodded and brainwashed until enough people on both sides are going to snap? Lord have mercy on the ignorant and the innocent.

If you rent a room in his home, it's still his private space to do with as he chooses though no matter how communal your presence makes it.

True. My analogy was flawed.

Instead, what if you co-owned the house?

I'm saying the reason we had trouble is because we had two groups bent on trouble.

You have the white nationalists who know there will be groups violently counter protesting them and you have the ones who could not resist the violent counter protest. It has been a fairly regular pattern that these violent counter protesters have shown up to shut down speakers and at protests and rallies around the country.

You have two groups, one bent on causing trouble with the intent to intimidate and attack the first into backing down and the other intent on not backing down. That causes fights.

Really, I've explained all this before. You must have ignored it.

What do you think would have happened if just one group had showed up? Do you think there would have been trouble? If there had, you could squarely point the finger at it as the sole cause of all problems, but now you can't because both groups cause trouble and fought.

And, yes, you can "just ignore" the white supremacists. Most of the time as I grew up, people generally did. They crawled out from under their rocks, marched around, yelled angry things, disappeared again, and no one knew what was going on with them until they repeated it in a few years somewhere else. They've never been numerous, and they've never done much more than shout and march, so people just sort of ignored them ... and they went away! Imagine that.

Now you fight them and give them attention. There's no telling what they might do.

Crazy days... reminds me of the rumblings of Bolshevism... and the rise of the National Socialists in Germany...

Kind of surreal to see this happen here....

yah...I know what you mean.

I sit here way out in the woods where I live. It's quite, everyone is friendly with everyone else in the small town.......

Yet the images on the TV and the internet tell a different story in other places. I'm seeing things happening here in the US that I've seen before.......

In history books........about places where total dictatorships and despots rose to power because they convinced people to pretty much tear apart their country and to hate groups of people......accusing them of things and learning to hate them.

As a kid in the 1970s if you had told me that this is what America would be like in 2017, I would have said you were some crazy person! That Americans could never be this stupid about our freedoms, that we know that to be free you have to tolerate everyone and everyone's views whether you agreed with them or not, and that we do that and that's what makes us so awesome!

But here we are........in a world that I don't recognize......with people that are so intolerant that they'll resort to violence and destruction of things.....all because they can't stand not having everything their way, and how dare people not be just like them.

I'm seeing this in different ways on both sides......of everything: politics.....race......gender (all though that one is getting kind of confusing)......religion/beliefs.........

It's like someone flipped a switch and made time jump back over 150 years ago. Seems like we've been doing nothing but regressing for the last 10 to 20 years.

She didn't walk into a fire. She walked across a street in a town she lived in.

The fire in this case was white supremacists who came from all over to hold a Nazi rally.

Don't you dare blame her for getting ran over by a terrorist.

Virtue signaling aside, I was leading the conversation to the ultimate end. Where does the hypocrisy stop? The same minds that tore this statue down, think you shouldn't own anything having to do with the confederacy.

i'm sorry, i don't agree. i find it distasteful if people have private ownership of hateful material, but that's entirely distinct from endorsing it on public property.

Then perhaps you can say where it ends?

The original groups there to protest the removal of the statue had applied for and were granted a permit to march and protest. The counter-protest group that was there to oppose their march did not file for a legal permit to do so. That is why the reference to her being there illegally is based.

We already know what will happen if we don't fight them. Their entire premise is based in an ideology that took us two nukes to diminish.

Screw ignoring them.
