A good leader should consider all options before sending troops onto a battlefield. Wars would unfold differently if those issuing the orders weren't sitting in offices and were fighting alongside the troops.

As a Venezuelan born, I can tell almost nobody in this thread understands why the people of Venezuela will most likely never be able to get out of their particular by themselves.

To the one saying let's just send humanitarian aid, how do you propose to send it? You think the government of Maduro will allow that? .

He sometimes opens his mouth too much, but he is doing all the right things with little to no help. He is also putting lots of pressure to ensure that the famiy of Chavez and all of those who have stole from the people, that are now living like millionaires in brickell ave have no access to their money by freezing their assets. Maduro already asked to talk to him.

You all have no idea of the day to day of people there. And do not understand the idiosyncrasy of their culture.

I was referring to numbers killed, not wounded.

A good leader should consider all options but I don't think it would benefit us to put high ranking politicians on the field. That just creates high value targets that make things harder for the troops. Worst case scenario it gets more of them killed having to defend someone. The generals already visit the field when necessary and that's good enough for me.

If we're going to use force, I want us to be using it for the right reasons, I don't think we have the right reasons in this case. We've tried this same thing too many times, and it has always backfired.

Speaking from experience (42 months in Iraq) - Generals fly in the last few days of the month and stay for the first few days of the next month and then leave.

Example:
Dec 29 - Jan 03
Feb 26 - Mar 03
Apr 28 - May 03
Etc - etc

What this does is gives them three -four days per month in theater allowing them to claim both imminent danger/hostile fire pay for the month (for them and cadre) as well as claim the entire month of "service" in theater towards the campaign (for themselves and cadre).

Generals (which we have about five times more than we need) are not really required for the military to function properly. They are figureheads and mouthpieces and as such are indeed a liability.

Politicians should never be in the field and should never even be involved with the conduct of warfare. War is final result of negotiations. It means the politicians have failed to do their job. Once it has been decided that war is the solution it is the military's role to reach a conclusion as rapidly as possible. When politicians become involved it results in failure. We have seen this play out numerous times in recent history.

What could possibly be more of an oxymoron than constrained warfare?

People are so dumb. The states have a military action plan for everything that's happening in th e world. Doesnt mean they're actually going to use military action. Trump is just being an idiot by telling the truth instead of hiding it. If anyone believes that the same thing wasn't going on during obama's terms you are dumb. Obama was just smart enough not to say it out loud. If you don't plan for every possible outcome no matter how remote it may be you are not doing your job

I bet your petty PR piece on a "100" dead civilians doesn't mention CIA involvement and subsequent terror tactics used by "moderate opposition". Or the fact that it's open knowledge that the USA did all of this before in Venezuela, including the deployment of snipers that shot civilians and police randomly; and much like with the snipers who instigated the Maidan riots in Ukraine, these snipers were initially portrayed as police indiscriminately killing civilians.

Are you Americans capable of remembering recent history or are you too distracted as you foam from the mouth at the thought of decimating yet another sovereign country?

The Venezuela crisis could turn into a refugee crisis, as people are leaving that country in masses. So maybe intervening sooner than later will prevent many other problems.
To the people just saying it's none of our business, think about this, if your neighbors house is on fire would you sit there just watching it burn? Or would you call 911 before your house catches fire as well?

I think the issue is the same people that want to go in and liberate Venezuela, and accept refugees now because Trump is saying it, are the same ones who were against Middle East intervention, and turning away Syrian refugees because Obama said it. The reverse also holds true.

The partisian game is strong on this issue.
