the people of North Korea have no voice. they probably also have very little idea of what's going on externally.
comparatively, the people of the US choose to remain ignorant of the external world. and like the nk's they take the word of the leader as gospel (although not Quite as literally).
in either case if this does begin, IF, it will be the will of the leaders. not the will of the people.

Or Trump makes a phone call to Xi stating the US will soon be resolving the North Korea crisis and China needs to be prepared to claim their new landmass on 1-hour notice. 1-hour before scheduled ceasing of shelling, Trump calls Xi again and informs him that it's all China's now.

If North Korea would launch one of their "US mainland threatening nuclear-tipped ICBM's" into space and detonate it a couple thousand miles up, I think it would accomplish everything Kim seeks without providing rational justification for a counter-strike by the US.
Kim is seeking his idea of "respect" and "honor" in the eyes of the world. In his mind, such goals are achieved only through grand displays of great strength and/or power. Hence his obsession with nuclear weapons, which he views as essential in establishing NK as a respected world power.
A high orbit detonation would prove to the world that NK, and thus Kim, is a world power, in Kim's mind, on par with the US, Russia, and even (frenemy) China.
Which is exactly what he seeks.
And would accomplish that goal without getting anyone killed.

then drop the Rods of God.....25% of the arsenal.....let everyone sort out the details later....the record will show no nuclear weapons were used and the problem is gone.

China is also very much against the Thaad defense system being installed in South Korea.
China does not want a refugee influx from a collapsed regime, not does it desire to see the USA occupying land on its border. Both China and Russia far prefer to have 'buffer nations' between themselves and the west. And North Korea serves that purpose on the peninsula.
They might not like the Kim regime, but they far prefer it over an American military base being there. Russia feels the same - they treat the Kim regime as a strange curiosity, not publicly bashing it, rather using tongue in cheek humor to point out its oddities.
What you describe sounds like two paranoid hypochondriacs. The "West" doesn't want to invade Russia or China. We have enough land and resources. What age do those two countries think we're living in?

So we should just go ahead and kill millions of people all because a fat midget is talking smack to us?
I wonder what the North Korean people are thinking knowing that the most powerful military in the world is talking about attacking them preemptively? I wonder if North Korea would be justified in attacking us before we attack them? Their reasoning would be the same as ours.

China is is the ultimate paradox. Completely capitalist when it comes to business yet overwhelmingly communist in all affairs of state. It sees itself rising and rising to a place where it will dominate not only the USA, but the entire globe.
Let's be honest, China with over 1,000,000,000 people could simply march over the border unarmed and overwhelm the Kim regime in about 10 minutes after it's ammunition runs out.
But they won't because to THEM North Korea idea not a threat. And secretly, they enjoy the menace the obese one from Pyongyang brings upon the US.

You know nothin of China I would suggest you take the time to read articles from their media. They see North Korea as a threat and fatty Kim a joke.
