If you were the highest deity and wanted to exist, for what reasons would you exist?

To give structure to time, I suppose. So that not everything happens all at the same time.

This is a really nice thread with a lot of good ideas.

The topic you address is what is our "purpose" here, not "why" we are here, and that is understood and a great topic for discussion.

However, without wanting to be presumptuous, I would guess that "why" we are here is not understandable -- that this inability to understand "why" is one of the limitations and constraints of being conscious. We can't be conscious AND ALSO have a perfect understanding of why we are here.

This is likely a natural law -- which we can observe, but not understand. Our lack of perception regarding space, time, why we are here, and why we feel joy and pain and other things -- this is like the gear work of our conscious minds -- if you were to have those answers, the gear work would break.

So -- if that is true, we lose consciousness on death, but gain final understanding of this ultimate "why" -- we become part of a larger truth -- call it a super-consciousness that is different from our current state, and perhaps a lot cooler than we can possibly know.

But anyway -- that is a little off the OP topic.
