Dog Leads Family To Girls Who Were Struck By Lightning

A dog helped family members find two girls who were struck by lightning while hiking in Utah on Friday morning.

According to a release from the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office, two girls, ages 8 and 16, were camping during a family reunion and left their camp on an ATV, taking a family dog with them.

Officials told CBS affiliate KUTV that while the girls were hiking, lightning struck the 8-year-old girl on the top of her head and traveled into the 16-year-old girl.

The dog returned to the camp alone and led family members back to the two girls, who were found unconscious on the ground. The girls were then flown to a local hospital.

The 8-year-old girl was last reported to be in critical condition, and the 16-year-old girl was in serious but stable condition.

What a horrible way to end a family vacation.

I bet that dog's going to get some yummie snacks and lots a hugs for that one!

I hope those girls are going to heal well.

peace

Dog is a hero...just like the Littlest Hobo!

Quickly reminded me of this theme song:

How tragic. It does happen, I know someone who got struck by lightning, I have been lucky, lightning has struck within a hundred feet of me at least ten times. When my hair starts to stand up, I tend to go to shelter, but I still love to stand on the open covered porch and watch the lightning a lot.

More than likely they were holding hands for it to travel to the older girl. Bittersweet.
I wonder if they may have got the 2 mixed up in the story. Assuming the 16 year old is taller than the 8 year old, theoretically, shouldn't she have been the one struck?
Regardless, that's why we love our pets! In the most stressful, trying times, they show us how human they really are.
Prayers to the family.

There are plenty of examples of this type of thing, proving dogs are man's best friends. all credit to the dog in this situation. Dogs seem to understand serious situations and act accordingly.

In old and elderly acquaintance tripped and broke her leg on a farm in rural Shropshire, UK. Two of her dogs stayed with her and the other ranged out, and its barking attracted the attention of her sons. They were three border terriers.

Oh Ricky - I dunno how you can't get right out into the storm from their on your porch!

I can't resist!

I've got to get right out there in it and dance around.

That being said I've never even gotten close to being hit.

Must be your...electric personality.

I couldn't resist!

peace
