Public University’s Plaque Labels President Lincoln A Democrat

A long standing mis-info dis-info boondoggle is getting resurrected and challenged.

Apparently in 1905, a "plaque" was initiated at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.

It's a dedication to Abraham Lincoln and it says he was a Democrat.



Some groups are wondering why this has never been corrected.

I guess "they" were obsessively jealous way back then too !

Probably an early deep cover operation by Fabians at the time.

"Pseudo-Intellectualism" at it's finest again !

Some people think the plaque was "altered" during the Obama Administration (pure speculation of course).

A public university in President Abraham Lincoln’s home state of Illinois is adorned with a plaque that states Lincoln – arguably the most famous and influential president in American history – was a Democrat.

Lincoln was a Republican.

The plaque, located on a historic building that’s part of Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago and installed in 1905, states: “This building is dedicated to public service honoring the memory of Abraham Lincoln Democrat.”

When a picture of the memorial recently surfaced on social media sites, it quickly went viral, and prompted anger among many Republicans, who called the dedication not only inaccurate but also a prime example of revisionist history. But the university stands by the inscription.

“According to building archives, the word democrat was used because Lincoln was an advocate for democracy—the political or social equality of all people,” campus officials stated in a press release. “The word was not chosen to reflect a political affiliation. … Northeastern Illinois University recognizes the context that this plaque was created and intends to uphold its integrity.”

His most famous speech was in praise of democracy, as an institution. He was a democrat rather than a monarchist. Presumably they gave it a capital "D" because the concept was deemed important in a democratic America.
The Republicans of the time appear to have understood the plaque in the same way, if they raised no objection.
Let it be.

I know you state "since 1905", but someone wanted to try to change history. Im wondering if that has anything to do with the 'Brownsville Incident' that happened in 1906?
Ever since that episode, the minority population voted Democrat as opposed to Republican.
Afterall, "What is history, but a lie agreed upon by 2 men?"

And, besides, I don't think anyone has any business trying to posthumously label him as something he didn't identify as.

The Democratic party is corrupt, through and through. And they are not progressive...check their record on war over the last 16 years.

Don't forget to mention that Republicans passed the amendment to free the slaves with a majority of Democrats voting no.

And then sit back and wait for them to stumble through some BS about Democrats back then are Republicans now.

As an amateur internet historian, I have to correct you on a few things.

First off, "plaque" is the leading cause of gingivitis. It has no political ideology so I don't know where you got that from.

Secondly, George Washington had wooden teeth. He also suffered from "plaque" until he didn't.

Thirdly, Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi were interns at the Whitehouse when Lincoln (the inventor of the car) was in office. So they would know more about this issue than anyone.
