Terrorists in Baghdad's Dora district are turning their attention to barbers who cut men's hair and beards. They see having trimmed beards and modern hairstyles to be anti-Islamic and a sin as well as symbolic of the western culture they hate. Dora residents say five barbers have been slain in one month alone.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Umm Ali says militants killed her son last month for the most unlikely of reasons: He trims men's beards.

In Baghdad's Dora neighborhood, residents say Sunni Muslim extremists have made barbers the new hunted, accusing them of violating a strict reading of Islamic teachings that say men should keep their beards long.

Some extremists also consider Western-style haircuts an offensive symbol of the hated, secularized culture of Europe and the United States.

This shows just how backward the ideas of these terrorists are and how they are trying to impose these religious interpretations on all citizens. I hope that now the elections are behind us stories like this will become rarer as the Iraqi security forces become more powerful and people who do things like this are brought to justice.

And some people call these terrorists - 'freedom fighters' and
they call them the Iraqi 'resistence'.
Yeah, right. These
idiots are freeing Iraqis from the dreaded and dangerous barbers.
They need to get it through their heads that this isn't the year
1000, and that people are moving forward, not backward.

Taliban? This has a very familiar sound to it doesn't it. Perhaps there was a link from Iraq to Afganistan.
