He didn't say he wasn't "transgendered" (grammatically incorrect, by the way - it's an adjective, not a verb). He said he was misdiagnosed with gender dysphoria.

This guys come up before.

As I remember he had psychological problems.

Nice pretzel logic, but this guy doesn't speak for the entirety of the trans community any more than my ex-Catholic husband does for Catholics. He's quite qualified to speak a literal educated opinion on Catholicism, having studied to enter seminary himself.

By your logic, everything this guy says floats, and therefore, by the same logic, every logically negative aspect my husband can point out against Catholicism stands as proof as to why he's right, and the devout are hopelessly wrong.

Don't agree with that? That my husband cannot speak for all Catholics, despite having BTDT in a more devout (nearly committing to the Church) manner than even the everyday Catholic does?
Then stop fumbling for token folks to prop up your dislikes.

When you have to intentionally prop up and parade EXAMPLES...you probably DON'T have the support you CLAIM...

It would be like Democrats elevating ONE single 2nd Amendment candidate.

Really?... is that how it works now according to you?... So, if people who lean to the right in politics present evidence it must mean "you don't have the support you claim"?... LOL...

So, you actually think it is completely okay for transgender soldiers to milk the tax payer so they can have "hormone therapy" and "sex changes"?

How much of the budget does it cost? Why do you assume all transgender soldiers... or transgender people in any role of the military would require this therapy or funds for a sex change.

How can you justify the current spend on say... viagra that the DoD current spend millions on.

I agree with this for many reasons, but to those disagreeing fine... Lets take in trans... no problem BUT...

1> No medical coverage for sex change related procedures whatsoever...

2> No medical coverage for sex change related side effects or after effects at any time for physical/mental issues arising from the procedure or conditions surrounding it during or after military career...

3> Special office duties and no weapons allowed during and after the procedure due to hormonal changes that DOES and is medically known to affect someone mentally until cleared by a mental health specialist...

4> Mental health specialist follow up to ensure that you have the mental strength and your brain chemicals have balanced themselves after the hormonal storm caused by massive hormone doses for YOUR security and others surrounding you. No soldier needs a fellow soldier start crying and freaking out in the middle of a firefight... If your a trans and your serious your should be mature enough to understand the physical and mental changes that you will be undergoing and you should have the wits to understand that you might put your fellow soldiers at risk if your not in a state to take quick and decisive actions upon which lives will depend on...

If you want to still be in the army after that then fine... Its because you wanted a military career, if your bitching about it then your simply looking for someone to pay your medical bills and you don't belong in there in first place...

Now before you go apes*** about the mental health specialist please see below...

Effects[edit]

A transgender woman before and after 28 months of HRT.
The main effects of HRT of the MTF type are as follows:[42]
Breast development and enlargement
Softening and thinning of the skin
Decreased body hair growth and density
Redistribution of body fat in a feminine pattern
Decreased muscle mass and strength
Widening of the hips (if epiphyseal closure has not yet occurred; see below)
Decreased acne, skin oiliness, scalp hair loss, and body odor
Decreased size of the penis, scrotum, testicles, and prostate
Suppressed or abolished spermatogenesis and fertility
Decreased semen production/ejaculate volume

Changes in mood, emotionality, and behavior

Decreased sex drive and incidence of spontaneous erections

You should be treated the same as a soldier with PTSD, you can be a danger for yourself and others around you during that
time so you shouldn't be treated the same as soldiers cleared for combat... period... like it or not...

And even there you CANNOT prevent the cost associated for mental health specialists and such, there will always be costs associated for special treatments...

So, someone who's been there, done that, says trans people don't belong in the military. All the reasons listed are the same ones people gave in another thread on the topic. So, why all the claims those people are just haters, again, I wonder?

S&F.

Your point is invalid, temporary Erectile Dysfunction is of very high prevalence in soldiers coming back from war with PTSD, viagra in itself will help the soldier emotionally on many levels, your away from your wife for 6 months and you come back with a limp gun I think it will affect everyone involved including the wife...

And finally...

$58.70/per pill x 3times a week x 4 weeks = 704$/month

You would need to feed this same soldier viagra for while
to equal the cost of a single MTF transition... That doesn't
cover the after effect costs if he/she needs counceling and
such this adds on top of the initial transition cost... Lets me honest here,
they aren't going to half ass it if its "free"... They will go ALLLLL the way
regardless of costs...

Breast Augmentation: $5,000-$10,000

Facial Feminization Surgery: $25,000-$60,000

Gender Reassignment Surgery: $30,000-Plus

Hormone Therapy: $1,500/Year

And that's just the tip of the iceberg...

a female to male transgender person would be stronger, faster, and have higher stamina, more anger, and be more successful in hand to hand combat.

the opposite is true of a male to female soldier.

both soldiers would become infertile.
both would be subject to intense mood swings brought on by HRT.
both would incur high medical fees, and hundreds of hours with a psychiatric professional.
both would require several weeks in a hospital
both would require continuous access to an external source of hormones.

some of the post operative patients would be less likely to commit suicide
some of the post operative patients would be more likely to commit suicide

I can only conclude that at this time, sexual reassignment surgery carries with it considerable drawbacks with few benefits. I concede that if the technology and medicine were more advanced, many of these issues would either vanish or become trivial.

The Trump administration could do a token service for the transgender community and military by allocating some small budget (a few million dollars) toward improving the medical science and treatment. The research itself could pave the way for things like cloning reproductive organs lost to an IED blast, or stem/printed facial tissue used for a soldier who has been burned or shot in the face.

I think if the procedure literally created a fertile member of the opposite sex that also resembled the opposite sex, without a dependence on continued hormone injections, I would be far more willing to accept this as a covered medical option for soldiers.

THIS is NOT the military's mission. The mission is to defeat the enemy.
This whole debate is moot. Like I said, the job of the military is to kill and destroy the enemy's ability to wage war. That's it. Bottom line.
The tax payers couldn't pay for lasik surgery to correct a soldier's eyesight, the tax payers shouldn't have to pay for a soldier's gender reassignment surgery or everything else that goes along with it.

But its not fine... you are still banned from being in the military.

So you also disagree with this decision, glad you finally accepted that.

I agreed with everything you said up to this point. If the solider cannot see down his/her sights after let's say the vehicle they were driving ran over a land mine in Afghanistan and their prescription-ware shattered on them...then how are they supposed to fire at the enemy without causing friendly fire due to double vision?

I say give them Lasik...but forgo anything sex-change related therapies. The doctor's role is treat what is happening on the battlefield instead of why someone is not satisfied with their machine gun/Big Dipper between their pants God gave them...

Bully for him. He does not speak for all trans people. He does not speak for MOST trans people.

That doesn't change the fact that this group will bring mental and physical issues with them that are already discriminated against with others who also may have mental and physical issues too.

What exactly allows someone to speak for the trans community?

A true transgender person of course.

But I thought there were transgender people who don't get the surgery? As many people on ATS have already pointed out in other threads.....

You can't have it both ways...

I think the phrase is "no true Scotsman".

A "true transgender person" will be "one who agrees with my position". If they don't agree with that position... well, clearly they're not a true transgender person, as proved by the fact that they are disagreeing.

It's a great mechanism.

This is the perspective of one person out of millions! This person isn't the end all be all! There is no proof that this person is even actually real. It reads more of a professional hit piece! And I disagree with Trump.
The vast majority of people with gender dysphoria grow out of it, and 20% who have the sex change change back.

Sure.

As children with GID only rarely go on to have permanent transsexualism

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov...

And by rare they mean ~90% have their dysphoria go away. It's actually as high as 97.5% lose the feelings, but I pick the midpoint of 90%.

Only 2.5% to 20% of all cases of GID in childhood and adolescence are the initial manifestation of irreversible transsexualism.

Here is an article written by a man who became a woman and changed back and has spent much of their life researching this. Almost all of them have mental health issues, ~40% are suicidal, and 20% regret it.
