Joining the military is a business deal. It has nothing to do with thanks. Veterans get high quality VA healthcare, and they are paid while they serve. It's a job just like any other job. There's no need for anyone to thank service men and women.

I joined because I like my country.

I am a female but have always felt that I should have been born a male. That is what makes one transgender. ... A re-assignment surgery does not. I served in the military back in the 'Do not Tell' period when they they let people like me serve. I feel I have done a service to my country fighting over seas, but yet I read message boards like these and I often fell like I am slapped in the face. I have a tough skin so you can call me 'Trash' a 'Gender Bender', 'Lesbo', 'Rug Cruncher' etc ... I did however serve and offered my life to protect my country ... Have You? Believe me I have flown places, dropped bombs (some which I regret but was under millitary orders to do so so I did) ... Again you get on a site like this filled with so much hatred. Once in a while I get a 'Thank You' message from a neighbour who thanks me for helping out our country and keeping it safe. ... And That is why I chose to serve.

I've said some stuff that might be hard to read on this thread (more on human nature, not my own personal feelings), and I am proud that you've served in the military. I would happily serve with you. I was in when women were starting to really be commonly in almost all jobs, and I saw no trouble (though a lot of flirting). I had a very fair and encouraging woman who was the Commander of my unit.

The military is a tough place for anyone. It's just not easy. But you did it, and I'm proud that you did. It was the era when you had to hide anything like that (don't ask, don't tell). I actually joined before when you absolutely had to tell, but obviously many people got in but kept things quiet.

I listen to 80s New Wave music all the time with people who are trans, gay, bi, and whatever. The most loyal crowd of friends one could imagine. But when I think of the military, I think they'd not have as much fun under the regimented lifestyle, but they also don't have to choose it. For those who do, I salute them.

I think it takes years for acceptance of ideas in the military. It might be another 20 years before it's a comfortable easy thing to have trans people (God, I hate using stupid identity like this, as everyone is different) in the military. I was totally unacceptable when I was in to be so openly, but I get the feeling that mindset will die off.

There's a mission, and it still has to be done, no matter who you are. I won't go into how right that is, but there is a mission to be done.

A persons sexual identity and orientation should not be an indicator to their devotion to duty, honor, or the mission.

Trump is CnC though. It is his call to make.

The military discriminates against many who have preexisting medical conditions and the nature of Transgenders might as well put them in this bucket too.

Especially considering the fact that no war fought in my lifetime have had one iota to do with my liberty and safety. If anything the perpetual wars of imperial conquest have endangered US all (lets not forget 9/11 eh), while plunder the economic future of the nation thus making me a crazy person to dare to try to have a family with children.

Which might come off as off topic, but then again I've read that supposedly SJW's are anti-imperialism / anti-colonialism / anti-war. Although in all the daily ordeals they try to light the Internet on fire about anti-war never hardly seems to be their agenda. Unless of course it's shaming all white people as devils. But their fervor on this issue, I mean lets get real here it seriously underscores their hypocrisy once again.

Yes, it's seriously the "Perfect Storm" thing as we're talking social / medical / psychological / sexual considerations combined in a huge percentage of each individual in question.

And all this trouble for what 5,000 individuals?

Can anyone specify what percentage of them have the surgery thing already 'done' or EXPECTING to receive?

But perhaps the bigger issue we've all missed so far is this: They had it all, last year, and instead of be all happy and satisfied and effing GRATEFUL, some seriously significant percentage of them and 'their' entire SJW movement they RIOTED (metaphorically on the Internet, and LITERALLY out in the streets) in response to finally getting the last of 'everything they ever wanted' (the entire SJW movements list of action items short of stuff like genocide).

I would beg to differ given the people who I were deployed with.

If they are transgender, they could go hush hush and join secretly.

That's what I was thinking. Is it easier for the military entrance doctor to tell if you were a man, or if you were a woman? From what I remember, he didn't check us over all that thoroughly. Next..Next...Next...

Thank you for your service.

I do not care why you did it, when you did it or what gender you feel you need to be.

Thank you.

I agree with his statement. Why should the military pay for a sex change? It was ridicilous from the start and catering to a few percent isn't worth it.

Agreed.

But...a few percent? Try tenths of a percent. The hyperventilating left thinking once again the majority should make (and pay for) exceptions for everyone.

Spoken like a true armchair quarterback living in a socialist country who gets spoon fed on a daily basis. You are ignorant and you are a troll. I see through your posts. What was your last handle before you were banned?

The VA is far from quality health care. Or have you been under a rock for a significant period of time? The starting pay for a private in the US Army is $369/wk. Granted they receive clothing (BDUs), food, and living quarters but trust me no soldier does it "for the money".

No one who served ever expects thanks. To the contrary whenever someone thanks me "for my service" I tell them I don't need the thanks. It was a conscious choice I made because I WANTED to do it and it was my profession for many years. And I was really good at it. Still am.

A job is something someone does because they HAVE to. Like what I imagine you do on a daily basis.

Whiny liberal socialists like you disgust me.

Not many apparently getting sexual reassignment through the VA anyway.
According to this article in Military Times.

www.militarytimes.com...

Under the new policy, transgender troops must have a personal transition plan approved by a military doctor, a standard requirement for major procedures for active-duty troops.

officials said DoD didn't expect a large number of requests for surgery as many transgender individuals do not choose to undergo surgery

the most common treatment for gender dysphoria is hormone therapy, but some surgeries, such as breast implants and resconstruction may be deemed medically necessary.

Well that failed too.
Now we're left with ACA lite. with half the coverage and all the expense of the original.
And no mandate for employers to offer insurance.
