Explain why it is silly?.
Here a quote from a UK Captain.

“I can’t think of anywhere better.” In the military, she is valued for her competence as an officer, she says. In the heat of battle, her comrades care more for her skills with a tank than intricate issues of gender.

So again you just deflect it is a really simple question.
Anyhow answer or not I proved my point here.

Funny you should mention autism.
www.theatlantic.com...

There was a Ben Afflack movie called The Accountant where he played a butt kicking autistic guy.

I am sure there is a place for people with some levels of autism that could not only be effective, but in some ways better than those without.

However, I work with people with disabilities everyday, and believe me, I wish more than anything that the world could adapt to make them more in place and comfortable.

But it just isn't possible.

As far as transgender, I don't understand why they couldn't serve in non combat roles. But I dont agree with paying for their surgeries and treatments, etc.

Again, I have no access to evidence either anecdotal or empirical that addresses trans impact on the military.

I only have three major points.

1. Banning trans from the military isn't proof of hating trans.

2. The military isn't a social experiment.

3. Once more, Trump appears to have bungled up the release of this policy.

I have a small issue with #3.

Trump is CnC.

He takes the heat.

And it's Trump.

Here in the UK we allow it. A good article here.

www.ft.com...

“I joined the army not because I wanted to be a trans woman in the army. I joined because I wanted to be an engineer,”

I personally think you are shooting yourselves in the foot turning away potential talent.

But its not that simple.

The individual may be talented, but if they negatively affect those around them, then they would be a net negative.

For example, a 10 year old savant could be the best on site engineer in the world. However, he or she's presence on a combat field would be an extreme negative to the force as they would have to change how they behaved, protect him more, provide unique living arrangements and psychiatric help, etc.

Now, if the majority of those serving have no problem with serving along sides trans people, then I think Trump has madde a huge mistake.

Regardless of their sexual orientation or size or shape or skin color. If they are competent to make the choice, they should be allowed to make that choice. Not under threat.

THAT is a volunteer army.

Extreme naïveté. Regardless of size, shape, no. Just no. Skin color is laughably unimportant. IQ is certainly tested, but more to figure out what box to put a healthy person in. Shape? Seriously? Do you know how many teenagers I see that are ballooned up to 200+ pounds? Kids who jiggle when walking? Someone like that should be the last person allowed in the military. A healthy, strong trans person will do far better than someone completely out of shape.

And the military is damn picky. I broke a bone when I was 11, and had a steel plate with five screws applied, which was taken out a year later. It took the military 30 days to have a medical review before I was allowed to join. No one with any metal in their body may join, and if you've had some taken out, you have to prove it.

Where's the outrage for folks with metal in their bodies being denied military service?

Where's the outrage that my grandfather, in 1918, was denied entry in the Army because he was 6'5", 130 pounds, and had a slight heart murmur? The outrage!

I weigh 300 pounds. Many other people in this country are also overweight.

I would love to fly a F-16, but cannot safely fit in the cock pit.

So according to you, the military should be forced to remake every aircraft they own to accommodate any body type because I desire to volunteer?

Insanity.

my question was: why are you of the belief that the military paid for manning's transition (did they?) and who says that those in the military should have the procedure paid for by the military?

who has asked the military to pay for their transition?

for whose transition have they paid?

I have no idea and neither do you but it's a big part of the reason obviously.

Google is your friend.

www.thedailybeast.com...

Just hours after BuzzFeed News reported that the transgender prisoner and former WikiLeaks source ended her hunger strike with assurances that the military would provide surgery, a predictable chorus emerged on the right. Their chief grievance: the allocation of tax dollars for a procedure that has long been recognized by major medical associations as a medical necessity for many transgender individuals.

If a Transgender person visits a military recruiting office to enlist, how can they tell that he/she is Transgender?

I didn't say anything at all about "reasonable accommodation" and it never occurred to me that it would be an issue. I'm saying if you want to be in the military, go be in the military! You make it or you don't. No 'special treatment.'

for chrissakes

No one stops them from volunteering. But the military doesn't take every volunteer, and they are under no mandate to do so.

Same way they can tell if they are gay or not.

Yuuuuuge mistake.

Not that yuuge even if it is the case.

Even if trans people are doing good in the military (which again I have not seen any evidence either way about the affect of their participation on the military) I do not believe that not allowing them to serve will hurt the military that bad.

Politically, most military people really like Trump. After 8 years of them perceiving Obama as making the US look like the bad guys, they like Trump, and this issue would not be enough to change that in my opinion.

The LGBT community hated Trump anyway, so he loses almost nothing politically there.

And like it or not, the majority of Americans are fed up with the increasingly bizarre attention to less than 1% of the population, and they will not be that upset about this decision.

So IF, and thats a big if, the majority of the military does want trans to serve, this was a small mistake by Trump.

They wouldn't be able to tell with Neil Patrick Harris.

I don't know if this has been posted but it is an interesting interview with a former US Marine who is also a transgender individual.

She says that the US armed forces is "by far" the largest employer of transgendered people in the United States. She also says that the US military spending on Viagra dwarfs their spending on transgendered individuals.

She's wondering what the agenda is with this change in policy. I think she has a point. Is this economy and jobs related, a sort of equivalent to deporting the illegals as a way of freeing up jobs?
