Yeah so what.

Since the military's inception they have been selective in who they let in.

It's never been about freedom or democracy, and I will say this.

ANYONE is more concerned with the appearance than anything else in their lives.

Don't make great soldiers.

You know that JOB occupation where people get burned, blown up and lose limbs, and shot at for a living.

Reminds me of Brig. Gen. Jack Ripper.

In the Uk, when you apply to join the forces, whichever branch, if you have seen a doctor in the last 6 months for anything more than a cold you will be deferred until they have your full medical records. If you have seen a psychologist/psychiatrist you will be immediately excluded unless it is proven you were seeing those people for no more than depression. If you have suffered from depression you have to be at least 3 yrs clear without any medication before being considered. Transgenders serve in the UK army AFTER they have transitioned provided they meet the same rigorous mental & physical requirements as everyone else. LGB individuals get the same rights as hetrosexual soldiers i.e. maternity leave etc

To UKTruth....the fitness required for the Army is exactly the same, per job role, for women as for men. Different branches have different fitness requirements. Women themselves actually demanded the same fitness tests and the same basic training as men so people couldn't say they had it easier.

I read the military would spend more on Viagra than they would spend on transgender care. So the cost argument sounds like a false one to justify an ideological argument in the background.

I'm pretty sure it's not about appearance.
I'm really blown away by the total ignorance on this subject which has nothing to do with being gay.

Are they spending more than $45,000 per soldier? Or are you just adding up the total costs of all from the 'million' of them that get viagra, vs. the total costs of 'all 5,000' trans so far to get surgeries and respective treatments?

is it more about not allowing them to serve bc they're trans or the military not paying for surgeries and related medical costs?

How many soldiers get viagra AND how much annual etc does providing each of them cost?

Now how many trans soldiers get surgeries and how much does it and respective treatments cost per soldier???

It's simple. You are a man or a woman. Genetically there are those who are in the wrong body. However, mentally there are those who think the same thing. So, which is it? A genetic abnormality or a psychological condition?

She's using the total spent on ED pills for both active and retired personnel.

The actual amount spent for active personnel is actually about the same as what Rand's study under Obama said it would cost to take care of trans on active duty.

9 billion for active military
49 billion for all defense dept and only between 2.4 and 8.4 million on sexual reassignment and subsequent hormone therapies.
That's a drop in the bucket of their military budget.

Yeah it is about appearance.

For effs sake people have been trying to rationalize the most irrational human behavior.

Thinking people get a choice in the matter of gender.

You can't fight DNA or genetics.

There is no choice.

My impression from the ones with their hair on fire is its all about the discrimination angle. As usual.

I'm providing datas that makes it not so black and white (binary you know), and asking questions where we could all get past that if it makes sense, and for the most part they're completely avoiding all that jazz as best they can to keep it on the pure discrimination angle.

Or at least thats how it seems. It'd be extremely easy for them to prove otherwise, but we'll see...

Nope. Either you're lying or you're not paying attention to what you're reading for the god-only-knows-how-many'eth time.

Data from the Defense Health Agency indicate the U.S. Department of Defense spent $41.6 million on Viagra and $84.24 million total on drugs for erectile dysfunction in 2014.

The Military Times says that while some studies have found ED has become a growing health problem for service members in the last few years,it turns out that less than 10 percent of these documented prescriptions were actually for the troops. The rest went to retirees or family members covered by military health plans.

Casually switching out that M in "millions" for a B is kind of a giant reach.

ETA - also, it's worth noting, that one is still deployable with a limp tallywacker. There's all sorts of things that go into transitioning that make one non-deployable for an extended period of time.

I posted a bunch of facts, and then asked if you guys would give middle ground on no paid for surgeries.

Then you chose to ignore all that, post as if it never happened, avoid answering my question on compromise, assert again they're fit for the job while pretending that their complications dont make them unfit for combat, and now that you're finally addressing me you're deflecting with this 'only so many get surgery' thing.

You guys always want to avoid me, and then smite me when you do acknowledge me. The funny thing to me is, if you weren't all always so unwilling to compromise in your pigheadedness, on so many of these instances you could see that I'm ultimately showing you how you could truly 'win' at all this stuff. But since your team is never willing to compromise, and its all just about running roughshaw over the other team, generally with pure demagoguery, where all challengers are to be treated as the same creature, these things always just play out the same. And at the same time you almost make me want to be a conservative. Sometimes its really as if you guys are even out to push everyone into their camp.

I admit I didn't read every post on this almost 30 page thread before replying, maybe I missed your question.

My question was: Are complications from gender reassignment surgery really an issue when only 33% of transgenders have the surgery?

That's what I was talking about. It seems a lot of people assume that gender reassignment surgery is a prerequisite to being transgender. When in reality, the surgery isn't something most transgender people have.

My impression is some people are trying to create a 'new' sex out of thin air.

Mother nature is the only one that can do that.

Man not so much.
