A way I think Trump could change the news cycle and maybe write himself into the history books as one of the most important presidents in history. Would be to fix at least part of the nuclear problem...

Right now there is almost no check and balance between the president and launching nuclear weapons, which could likely end the species..

What if Russia and the US teamed up to unmake the 7 min launch window????

Take that power away from one man who changes every 4 years, and create a coalition of maybe 4 individuals where you need 3 of them to agree..

Maybe the president, a representative of the military who does not answer to the president , Then maybe a representative from both congress and the senate or maybe the Supreme Court.

Maybe create a network where all the nuclear officials keep open channels of communications open reguardless of politics.. that should help prevent any mixed signals or accidental launches.

Work out an agreement where all the nuclear powers at least agree to do the same and form their own commissions for maintaining communication if nothing else..

How does the media spin that in a bad way??

The left couldn't...

Trump actually relinquishing power and helping to add stop gaps to prevent annihilation?!?!

Imho he couldnt lose...

Even if they wrapped in the Russian collusion stuff into the story, trump is cedeing power to make the world a better place..

You can't sell that in a bad way..

How can Trump be remembered as a great President? Very simple - admit that the job is too much for him and resign, effective immediately. There. End of problem.

you got the question right but in my opinion the wrong answer.

to change the narrative the new narrative should be very simple to understand and not subject to spin.

Ill give you an example. Trump could build a wall and there would be people on both side of the issue who would think its a good thing or a bad thing. Spin.

However ,if Trump got on TV tomorrow and said "thats it folks....im done waiting for the slackers in Congress to do something about our healthcare crisis.....from now on everything is free and we will make it work."

That could not be spun. Oh the talking heads will still talk about what it could mean economically or whatever....but to the PEOPLE there is no spin....there is only win.

Trump should be focused on things that cannot be spun or in any way distorted. Giving people a roof over their head....food in their belly.....clothes on their bodies......medical care.....those things cannot be spun. Trump would be an instant folk hero.

Why he wont do whats plainly obviously needed is beyond bizarre......

Trump approval levels are nowhere near Obama's at the same point in his first term. Obama's was still positive. Trump's are not.

Just keep the democrats pissed and I'll remember him fondly.
Add a good economy and that's just gravy.

Trump will never be remembered as a great POTUS, period!

He has already destroyed his credibility to the point that no one in their right mind would even consider him trustworthy enough to negotiate with because everything that comes out of his mouth is a bold faced lie.

Furthermore, I prefer that he stays as far away from our nuclear arsenal as is humanly possible.

The only way to end the threat of nuclear war is to eliminate nuclear weapons altogether and Trump isn't about to agree to anything that may reduce his perceived power.

Trump will be remembered as the dumbest person to ever occupy the office and as the most well documented liar in presidential history.

He may also go down in the books as our first Russian POTUS. Maybe that explains his red-orange glow.

Your idea of the network could be good. I listened to a show about this, Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. I think people reasoned that soldiers couldn't be trusted with that kind of power, but you also had to be able to launch the nukes very quickly, so no one else dares to do it first. That gets harder the more people you have involved.

How would you choose the ones from congress and the senate? The officer and judge might be controversial too, since they aren't elected. Is the judge supposed to judge whether it's constitutional to nuke some place or not?

A lot of his voters might be unhappy if he suddenly became some sort of socialist.

My first Google link took me to Gallup, which shows them as nearly identical at six months. Decided it wasn't worth the argument.

I think thats a great idea

If anyone actually did this they wouldnt just go down as a great President, they would go down as one of the greatest Leaders of all time.

Sadly I wouldnt waste more than a dollar at odds of a million to one of it ever happening by anyone let alone Trump in my lifetime

Trump could do nothing and he would be remembered as a far better president than Obama who destroyed and divided the country. Increased the divide between rich and poor etc.
Not sure on nuclear launches but I think Trump will make America better and hopefully GREAT again.

I think regardless of what Trump does, to his supporters he is already the greatest president in living memory.

Now I might disagree with that sentiment strongly, however there is no denying that the man is extremely popular in some circles.

I don't think he can change the narrative now, its been set, what has been said has been said and nothing is going to change it. I think the media at times have been harsh and unfair on Trump yet at the same time he has not done himself any favours, he will probably go down in history as one of the worst presidents in history.... but only by the media not by his supporters.

Wouldn't work....two many areas to fail. What if 2 of the 4 are not able to be reached?

It is similar to the saying about moving parts. The more you have, the more that will break.

Single point of contact is the best way. There are still precautions in place to launch nuclear missiles....it isn't like Trump could just decide to one day, open up his "football" and just destroy the world.

I agree that to be remembered well by history, he will have to achieve some great worthwhile deeds for the people.

Don't think reforming nuclear weapon C&C will be it though. You won't get the Russians and Chinese to play ball, and everybody would just lie and cheat. 'Sure, my missiles can now only be launched after 20 minutes, you betcha, please ignore my submarines parked off your coast.'

Doing something amazing with the economy, tackling the deficit.

Introducing a national health service.

Perhaps a radical federal renewable energy drive, driving the world into a low carbon future.

Sadly I don't see anything in his rather meagre collection of policies that point towards anything truly great. He has... surprisingly few policies.

The problem would be if a nuclear attack was detected, could you guarantee retaliatory strike?

Fail safes are good, humans with a conscious are good too but let's say 50 nuclear missiles are about to rain down on your nation and a few people in the chain couldn't fulfill a retaliatory strike.

Getting nations to agree would be a serious task, then you have situations where nuclear weapons fall into the wrong hands... The necessity of needing to launch a pre-emptive strike.

I can think of a few scenarios where 1 nuclear weapon could save millions of lives and billions in cash.

Don't get me wrong, I wish we never had nuclear weapons in the first place but the fact is we do, something like 15000, probably more. We already have too many unaccounted for, and that is scary stuff.

Let's say a terrorist organisation got their hands on 1-5 nuclear weapons and were assembling them in a compound to be launched in 30 minutes via SCUD missiles or something similar, you could launch 100's of Tomahawks and smart missiles but it's the time constraints and risk of not knocking out every potential of a launch.

In that kind of scenario, you best hope that a ICBM can be launched to stop it, in a very narrow window of time.

Messing with our pre-emptive capabilities risks us being inept at stifling such a scenario.

I died a little writing that.... It's a sad, poignant fact that we don't live in a world where we can wish this madness away, we're stuck with what we have at hand, for now.

You really, really need to choose your words better. Last time I checked the USA wasn't destroyed but still exists.

I don't think history will be kind to him.

He would have to do something really big and far reaching that has a positive influence on the country and world, unfortunately, he isn't far sighted nor positive.

The DNC and the MSM (and the people that gobble up that koolaid) will never let him be remembered as anything other than a failure, he could solve every major problem facing our country in the next 6 months and they would still find something to complain about.
