There's a banner on the top of their website.

Let us all pause a moment to shed a tear for one of ATS' least-favorite websites:

.......

OK, that's long enough. Looks like they somehow lost control of their website, and can't afford the legal bills to fight the matter.

Tried to donate, wouldn't let me enter negative number.

That's all the effort I have for the day.

Good riddance. Won't be missed. For the love of God please don't come back.

Unless they actually reach their goal. That'd really suck.

Damn...now where will people go to "prove" their intelligence on conspiracies?

Is this proof of karma?

they came in handy for things like the black dot on the palm or the 'lights out' but they got too political for me.

ironic now that 'fake news' is such a big deal, lot of us would love a source to determine such.

While this subject is attracting attention, can I ask why it is that Snopes gets so much of a slating?

I really don't understand where it started, but it seems to be an article of faith on ATS that Snopes is some kind of disinformation project or similar.

Can anyone point me to the evidence for this belief?

(Genuine question. Thanks in advance to anyone who can solve this mystery).

They were good 10 years ago, before they decided that they absolutely had to weigh in on politics.

I won't miss them. The very idea of a centralized fact checking institution downplays the legitimacy of the scientific method, peer review, and the intellectual practice of logical debate.

Peace bitches!

Snopes was fun back in the golden age of urban legends, but the people running it are a couple of old liberals, and it often shows when they deal with political topics. These days, political stuff makes up the bulk of what they cover, or at least a large portion of it, so people on ATS have come to treat them like we do CNN or the Washington Post.

So (and please don't read this as being snarky) the slagging directed at Snopes is based more on intuition and reader politics, rather than concrete evidence? Or are there checkable instances in which the authors have misled readers over a matter of politics?

I think the people behind "snopes" are pulling a major psy-op on us. Recently they've actually made some decent submissions which were in fact seemingly truthful versus all the other mountains of garbage on that site.

I think the non-biased/objective articles and the fact that they are begging for money, makes it seem as if they are a ma and pa type operation who are desperate to stay afloat.

Call me crazy but I could swear they were agenda driven and are maybe a covert arm of the government's propaganda machine (probably where their funding comes from).

They want to appear "human"...sorry snopes, I am not falling for it.

Their work was selectively lazy at times in recent years. It seems I saw some posts on their site more than a few times about Hillary where she would be accused of something and their "investigation" would be, "we asked Hillary's people if this was true and they replied no so...FALSE!"

Other than that crap it was a good site.

So is it safe to say that the predictions made by the respondents from your last post on Snopes are coming to fruition?

Factcheck tops them all in ruthless, knowing deceit. And they have the nerve to solicit donations, like Snopes. Factcheck and Snopes deserve civil RICO fraud lawsuits for soliciting donations over the internet while claiming to be media/political watchdogs but lying and burying material facts, instead. It would be easy to prove.
