Did his mind expand until it burst?

Or did you get the typical youngin response, "Huh uh!"

He was a teenager, so he already knew everything.

WATCH PBS news sometime.

It's about as BORING as CSPAN.

WHY?

It's non-partisian.

You have to be kidding and I am not getting the joke. I tried to watch it and it is more partisan than CNN

Did you read the article and interview? NPR

They're not advocating it, they're reporting something a community college professor believes.

Doesn't mean they endorse it.

Could be...they're creating awareness about the fact that math is being downplayed by some few?

Would you have known that some schools want to strike a math requirement if you had not read the article?

And that is stupid.

Right?

Please say that getting rid of math (because it is hard) is wrong.

I used to be addicted to NPR. Its mostly emotional garbage now. They no longer teach like scholars. They teach like priests.

No thanks.

If republicans wanted to get rid of math because it was hard, I'd call them morons also.

It does seem like our educational standards are much lower than they were even 20 years ago. Are our children not receiving the critical education they need to survive life? For this to be happening to a post secondary institution is rather scary. The kids should know this before they even get to this point.

It almost seems like a well concentrated effort to deliberately dumb down our children.....

I am sure NPR will be all over breaking a story on our wonderful educational system. I can hear it now, 'They just need more money people....give give give'.

Yes, getting rid of math is stupid. I never said it wasn't.
The point is NPR is not advocating it, they're reporting that some believe it; therefore, they are creating awareness. As I asked, would you have known had you not read it?

'Kay.

So they are trying to justify losing math as a requirement.

Again,

MORONIC.

Just strike the algebra requirement to increase graduation rates instead of teaching math more effectively?

I hear that a lot and unfortunately nothing could be farther from the truth. Somewhere along the lines, since the 1950s, we decided that the only measure of a student's ability to reason or to do some sort of quantitative measure is algebra. What we're saying is we want as rigorous a course as possible to determine a student's ability to succeed, but it should be relevant to their course of study. There are other math courses that we could introduce that tell us a lot more about our students.

If they even have to ask the question, then I question their collective intelligence.

Is that how you view the article?

Because to me they are trying to determine why some think getting rid of math is justifiable.

Cop-out.

Since when did algebra become such a difficult course?

PBS and CSPAN are very partisan.

They do a good job of making themselves look "neutral".

The entire topic is a justification to weasel out of algebra.
