WAR: U.S. A Taste Of Home: U.S. Soldiers Get Comfort Foods

Concerned about morale of its troops, the U.S. military is trying to bring a taste of home to those on the front lines in Iraq. Mess halls are featuring meals from such well know fast food outlets as Pizza Hut, Burger King, and Subway, with more to be added soon. In addition, PX services are offered to the troops as well. The Camp Liberty PX is on track to sell over $80 million this year.



As Napoleon once said, an Army travels on its stomach. This is a good way to provide a morale boost and feed the troops at the same time. There is a huge debate going on within the Children Hospital community on this as well. Some hospitals have installed a fast food outlet and serves say McDonald's to the sick children that can eat. Detractors point to the nutritional issues, but for one, the kids eat it. Which would you rather have a kid that simply refuses to eat the nasty hospital meal or the one that has some nutritive value? At any rate its good to see they U.S. troops getting a taste of home.

Wise words from Napoleon and as true today as when he was around. People in the US might think that food is nasty because we can get it all the time but after not having it for awhile a Whopper or Sub can be really good.

Little stuff like food or picking up the latest DVD can mean alot to people that have been away for a long time.

I think its a great idea to do stuff like this for the troops.

As a Veteran Air Force man, Im thrilled to see that the upper level managment is now starting to realize that moral is an issue. These brave men and women should have had acess to this 3 yrs. ago. I expect this to be a huge boost in moral. In my opinion, anything that can be done to help make life better for our troops will go a long way in the productivity and retention of our best. We must remember that it took money to get these people trained to do their jobs well and some creature comforts that we all take for granted would be a welcome sight for our Armed Forces. Way to go!
