As a retired union worker, let me first state that just because you have union representation doesn't mean you don't get the job done.

As a union longshoreman, we often unloaded frozen products from deep within the holds of specialized refer, (refrigerated) ships where the ambient temperature is maintained at a constant -40 Fahrenheit and if you don't keep your ballpoint pen under your clothing and up next to you skin, the ink would freeze.

We did this in 5 hr. shifts, but that was only because of meal hours. Over the course of the day, one might spend 15 hrs. in that environment.

The union just made sure we did it safely and that we got paid well for doing it.

If those Amazon workers suspect they might be assigned to work in that environment at any given time, they should make sure they have the proper clothing at hand at all times while at work.

If Amazon is forcing them to work in an unsafe environment without the proper attire, those employees should contact OSHA.
