I was thinking about evolution last night , The way I see it is we did not evolve the other humanoids just went extinct and it seemed a whole bunch of other life forms also went extinct -When we showed up.

lol. One way to look at it. ...But 'we' are an assimilation - just another hybrid. However - what's happening now is more about biological annihilation. Hopefully something will emerge from the ashes, maybe an all new life form. Or maybe just another prion, that evolves into a new bacteria then morphs into another virus, then a few billion years down the road a supra-organism develops and we start all over.

ah life.

I saw from my own experience how a well meaning human interference in the natural balance of nature, can cause a big mess.

I used to feed the fish in my pond once or twice a month. I had guest visiting with their children for several weeks and the children loved to feed the fish. I didn't realize what a problem that would end up being until one day I walked down to the pond and saw it cover with a black substance.

I was terrified at first because I couldn't imagine what it was. On close inspection, I found out they were tadpoles. A gazillion of them. It turned out that the fish preferred the fish food over the tadpoles, and I was head for a plaque of frogs. It was a simple solution that time. I just stopped feeding the fish.

It took a while for them to understand that the manna was no longer going to be dropping from the sky, and when they did, they made short work of those tadpoles.

I now am very careful about how I interfere with the natural order of things in the woods around me.

Sounds like Al Gore may have helped writing the article.

To call what is happening now an "Extinction event" does not quite ring true to me. An extinction event is something rather more like a comet strike, or the eruption of a mega-volcano, or some other similar rapidly effective, singular instant which caused megadeath to occur.

Extinction events LOOK like they're "instant" but if you read up on them (Wikipedia or any reliable site) you will find that they each take place over a long time - on the order of thousands to millions of years.

This is not an event which links back to a singular event in geologic time,

...nor do any of the other extinctions, including the dinosaurs (which were actually gone by the time the meteor hit.)

Visit a jungle.. mountain ranges.. forests.. swim in the lakes and oceans. Feel northern winters and 4 seasons.

Everything is fine. Only since Al Gore and politicians making billions the past decade and some.. have things been over exposed.

Nature is doing its thing. We wont stop it.

Not man made or man made..... more like man contributed. Considering the forces we are subjected to from the solarsystem and the galaxy, it's pretty damn stupid to believe that the conditions on Earth are 100% man made. It's a double edged sword and I honestly don't think we can do anything about it...... I mean, I litterally think it's beyond our control. Sure, you could go the green route and hope that matters, but my intuition tells me it won't make a difference in the grand scheme of things.

Earth has been around for 4.000.000.000 years..... we have been around what, 250.000 years give or take? And we are all important? I say we don't matter one bit.... not one little bit.
During those 4 billion years, Earth has gone back and forth, and you know what, it will continue to do so wether we like it or not.

The best thing we as a race can do now, is adapt to the conditions as best we can.

Some scientists are not saying it is all doom and gloom. Read some conservationist's positive words.

Nature’s extraordinary resilience fills me with hope.

I remind myself often that it is in our nature to gravitate toward narratives that are dystopian or utopian, even though reality usually lies somewhere in between.

Another good dose of fake doom porn, while Al Gore wams his mansions and jet sets across the globe.

And what makes everyone think that this is solely the work of humans?

If there were (at least) five other mass extinctions in the Earths history, where were all the other humans back then driving their cars around and cutting down the trees and throwing plastic water bottles everywhere?

Of course, pollution is bad, overpopulation, etc. is all bad stuff and we as a species should not do it anyway. The article linked seems to point the finger solely to the activities of humans without leaving any room for this to be a part of a natural cycle.

Yes we are living through an extinction. It comes down to each and everyone one of us to do something about it if we care..
