Unidentified people have burst into the Spanish consulate in the Swiss capital Bern and some reports say they have taken several hostages.

Witnesses say police have sealed off the building and the surrounding area.

A consulate official quoted by the Spanish news agency Efe said one or two people had been taken captive.

Details are still sketchy and it is not known how many people went into the building at 0710 local time (0810 GMT) or whether they were armed.
