That is a baryon, found at CERN. Something new. It is not weaponable, at least now.

Anyway, SCIENCE!

Source, with many more infos

Everything is weaponable, just give it a time...

Those particles are unstable, are observed by their decay products. They are not really useful for anything but science.

Heavy quarks, sounds very weaponizable.

Today at the EPS Conference on High Energy Physics in Venice, the LHCb experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider has reported the observation of Ξcc++(Xicc++) a new particle containing two charm quarks and one up quark. The existence of this particle from the baryon family was expected by current theories, but physicists have been looking for such baryons with two heavy quarks for many years. The mass of the newly identified particle is about 3621 MeV, which is almost four times heavier than the most familiar baryon, the proton, a property that arises from its doubly charmed quark content. It is the first time that such a particle has been unambiguously detected.

home.cern, updates - LHCb announces a charming new particle.

The LHC had several upgrades and they came back online. The quickly reached maximum "trains" (bunches of particles that are like cars on a train. They space out each "car" and can do something like 2,500 "cars" on one "train") going in opposite directions and a new condensed target area.

LHCb is the "beauty" experiment looking for exotic baryons (unlike electrons, baryons have mass equal to or greater than a proton). The announcement is they found one in the "charm" family. As they say, it is the first time one has been seen.

All those collisions have produced over 200 petabytes of data! They usually take a late summer break, pick back up in the autumn then call an end to their "season" (experiments done for the year). They'll be churning that data for a while!

Eh..they are just filling out the periodic table of the fundamental elements that make up matter...just like the Chemists did ages ago with the Periodic Table of Elements...just basic research. Looking for things that should be there, then claiming to find what they expected to find, because there was this "gap" or "hole" in the table that needed to be filled in.
