Had our nice meal earlier today. The salted caramel peach cumble pie turned out really good.

Now we're just waiting for it to get dark. We'll watch one of the big displays from our deck and set off a few small fireworks of our own.

It rained about an inch earlier this morning, so fire danger is not a big issue and the temperature is wonderful.

The American dream is NOT dead.... You just now have to go to either Central or South America to achieve it....

The game is rigged...

Time for the gun control laws to be enforced, the 2nd amendment applies to militias, not everyone that wants to pack a gun.

Wrong.

No it's not wrong, did you read the link how many Americans are killed by gun violence? It's got to stop and the only way is to decrease the number of guns. If you want to go hunting deer in the fall, go pick up your gun at the depository, check it out, and return it when you are done. No more guns in the cities. period. It works in the UK, why not America?

Its not the gun that kills its the person, if you take away guns killers will still acquire guns if they want. If they couldnt and wanted to kill, they will find away. I guess we should outlaw spoons aswell, its making Americans fat! Our government doesnot want to take away guns to protect us, its less power the people have. Everything the government controls gives them that much more power over the people. Why do you think they designed obamacare to fail? So the government can take complete control of healthcare... its sad people these days cant even see their rights being stripped from them, even more sad there are citizens wanting there rights and freedoms removed. Ya know, damn near everyone carries a gun where i live including myself and theres not really a lot of crime here. Use to be ALOT, more then chicago, but now everyone carries a gun and its much better now, go figure. We can open carry ans conceal and carry with no permit and you know what? I love it!

Between Globalism, Corporate Socialism, and the "social justice" movement, this country will be a 3rd world hell hole in 50 years.

Too pessimistic for my taste.

There's a chance we can turn this around, it requires VOTER TURNOUT. The Dem's will never hold power again if the Republican voters actually turn out to vote. It would seem one of the side effects of a Trump presidancy is that people are waking up from their slumber and recognizing what has become of their country, this is a good thing. MAGA

A nation that does not even have universal healthcare for it's citizens will never be the greatest nation on earth.

Or a country that puts military spending above the welfare of it's citizenry. Or a country that has more people per capita incarcerated than any other nation. Or a country that wages wars simply for the sake of corporate welfare.

America was great at one point. It was a shining beacon of hope for many, including my ancestors who came from Ireland, France, England and Germany....but that beacon has dimmed, the hope has faded. We could become great again...but I sincerely doubt that our government will put the welfare of the man above the welfare of the corporation.

Look around you...the oligarchy that the USA has become...already has turned a great deal of it into a "3rd world hell hole." And it's not about the president...it's about how our government is for sale...well it was until it was bought by the military industrial complex, the oil lobby, the tobacco lobby, corporate interests...monsanto, and tons of other "too big to fail" corporations.

How about looking at America from the standpoint of objective reality, rather than blind patriotism.

A country that war mongers—over 1 million Iraqis dead. Invading small countries to maintain their hegemony….Craving power and glory, like ancient Rome or Nazi Germany.

Still doesn’t have national health insurance for all of its citizens. Tolerates massive poverty in the earth and refuses to even try to eliminate weapons of mass destruction...

Is America rich and powerful, indeed, but that alone doesn’t really make it great.

I think on this 4th of July the founding fathers are turning over in their graves with their backs towards America

Yes, we understand. For those on the left, this is a day of mourning rather than celebration.

As a matter of fact I did ... and wept great big, evil right wing crocodile tears just to pretend to care.

Feel better about it all now?

No, no, don't recall lying. Just spending time with my family and enjoying a rare holiday where the three of us are able to enjoy time at home together with a nice meal and have a bit of fun tonight.

But I guess if you are also playing the evil right winger theme, then I am likely lying to them about how much I love them.

You're the one who falsely accused me and my fellow people on the left of mourning this day. I celebrate 4th of July every year. I celebrate freedom.
