5.56 unfortunately, but the weapon hopefully will utilize the ammunition better.

750 rounds per minute, and with the shorty model the thing is no bigger than a water pistol.

My favorite thing about it though..15,000 rounds between cleanings and when you do decide to clean it, the average time was cut down to 4 minutes! That's just plain sweet.

You know I dont ever hear people say the same thing about the Glock. Which just happens to be mostly plastic and one of the best handguns on the planet.

For the record, I have heard plenty of Glock-bashers comment on the general appearance of Glock (i.e "tupperware"; "does it melt if you leave it in the sun?" etc.), however, they are mostly the type of people who pack their 1911 around exclusivley. Both are fine firearms, but there is a place for progress and a place for nostalgia. I would much rather see soldiers using the most durable and effective firearms that we have to offer regardless of asthetics.

As was already noted, the AR's introduction was met with serious resistance from everyone including the military due to it's futuristic appearance and small caliber. However, it has proven to be a relativley effective firearm for the last 40-50 years.

I agree with you on the Glock thing even though I don't personally like glocks (hate the glock trigger). Nothing against synthetics.. just as good as metal, lighter and cheaper.
"Relatively effective" is same as "not as effective." Not as effective as the AK.
The Stoner AR was introducted as a defensive weapon for the Air Force.
It was not intended to be a front line assult weapon (the story of guns, The Stoner AR, on The History Channel).
We should never settled for the "relatively effective" weapons.
