Heh, we usually eat on a budget, but for special occasions, we splurge a bit.

It helps that the husband has picked up cooking as a hobby. He spent enough time in the lab working his way up that he realized he really liked it, but to further his career, he had to start riding a desk. So he came to the conclusion that cooking was likely as close to the lab as he was likely to get.

It makes it easier for me to indulge some of my stranger food impulses.

But really, aside from the meat, this meal is actually pretty easy to get your hands on ingredient wise. It relies mostly on the food being in season.

I love fish, I can eat it every day, as long as it is cooked.

I'm the same way, raw fish just isn't appetizing ro me. I was gnawing on a cold T-Bone from the day before like a caveman while everyone was eating sushi.

I enjoyed the sake though.

I've had some good sake. I have also had some that was flavorless too.

Only the little packages that a supermarket deli 35 miles away has sometimes. 😪

Our town's fireworks are Monday night. Our middle son is cooking a pig in the ground Polynesian style. He & hubby dug the pit at youngest son's house today. They are there now starting to get it ready. But there's a snag! It has rained off & on for weeks. The pit slowly started taking on water! I sure hope they can make it work! There's a 50% chance of rain for tomorrow too. Fingers crossed! I don't think poached pork will cut it! 😝

Oh those dishes look fantastic!!! I could eat sushi every day of my life and never get tired of it.In my country we don't have the July 4th holiday but for xmas and NY eve we cook up a variety of our fave dishes like snoek on the bbq (snoek is a barracuda type local fish,and insanely delicious) Sticky chicken with pizza potatoes,leg of lamb etc.For NY we always make fried prawns and savory rice.
I guess our 4th of July is the 27th April.My birthday too,so we go out for seafood always on the evening.
