Fertility Doc's back Wombs for men: operations on NHS (taxpayer) so transgenders can have babies

Mr Cross, 21, from Gloucester, who was born Paige, put his sex-change on hold last year so he could have a baby.

Looks like there is a push from some Dr's for the NHS (National Heath Service England) to cover womb transplants for trans patients so they can have children.

Doctors have said transgender women, born male, should be able to have kids
Gynaecologists say implanting a donor womb into a person born male is possible
Talks planned on if womb transplants for trans-women should be publicly funded
Uterine transplants could even be given to gay and straight men within ten years

Transgender women who were born male should be given womb transplants so that they can have children, leading NHS doctors have told The Mail on Sunday.

And fertility experts say taxpayers should fund such transplants for those who identify as women, on the basis of ‘equality enshrined in law’.

Some Dr.'s predict that many more people will demand a womb. But some say that the money simply isn't there.

Dr Alghrani, of Liverpool University, also predicts that a successful programme would lead to others demanding wombs – including gay and straight men who wanted to experience ‘the joys’ of carrying a child.

But critics say the NHS should not waste precious resources merely to allow trans-women to pursue an ‘authentic female experience’.
www.dailymail.co.uk...

So it will boil down to money. Should a person who goes through all the changes that changes a man into a women, get the last big step done, and have the tax payers flip the bill? Luckily this is still highly experimental and not an everyday operation so there is a little time to debate this.
This will lead to others who want a womb installed to demand "theirs". Oh boy, this will be interesting to watch.

With legislation already on the books that trans people need to be treated equally. This may point to the fact that legally the taxpayer will have to pay for the womb transplants. Hope people in England like high taxes.

‘If we are saying we should have equality and we have legislation [defending the rights of transgender people], I do not see why not,’ she said.

Their rights to equal treatment, she noted, were ‘actually enshrined in legislation’.

Some days I don't even recognize society any more.

It's like I've fallen into the twilight zone... Imagine a world where men willingly chop their bits off, and society rallies together to sugically implant a womb so they can get pregnant.

Seems we're over the hill as a species anyway, screw it.

Oh society will stop cheer leading when the $300,000 per patient bills start to come due.

Libs in this case (and conservs) usually leave their hobbies high and dry when it hits their wallets.

This is an onion piece...or flat out fabrication.

We are not even remotely there medically..

In fact I would bet cloning and a bajillion other things are far closer and more likely achievable..

This is "doom porn" for conservative Christian conspiracy theorists.... ones not informed enough to know how laughable it is.

Give how incredibly difficult it is currently for Trans patients to get Trans-related treatments on the NHS, I can't see this being given the green light any time soon.

Just more typical Daily Fail transphobia, to stir up the 'look at the freaks!' sentiments.

And indeed the story even says it's not discussing a treatment that will be on the NHS:

"Later this year British doctors hope to start their own charity-funded programme to give donor wombs to at least three UK women."

I can't quite wrap my head around this concept, because what the 'doctors say' regarding transgender folk that want to alter their biology to conceive unnaturally are vague on the myriad of other methods / treatments there are to have children from your biology (and that of your partner). So, it potentially being taxpayer funded must surely address other less costly methods of having children?

I dunno - it appears there might be some attention seeking going on and I see no reason why taxpayers should be funding something that can be argued is no different to any other type of body modification - paid for by the person who wants it.

Dollars to donuts it's a fake story and not even remotely medically possible.

I think this is a good thing to talk about. It is going to be possible in the next 5-10 years. And people are going to want this.

The big question is how do you pay for this?

Arn't womens pelvic cavities larger than mens thus allowing them to give birth ?

Imagine a screaming man giving birth with a natural smaller pelvic cavity.

Ooooooo. The screams will be heard from miles away.

Of course tax payers shouldn't pay for it and won't, because I would bet money it us scientifically impossible by today's medical standard, let alone to the point we are assigning public funds...

It is laughable.. I don't know how anyone could buy it in the first place.

People should remember how credible that site is.

FEMALE TO MALE!!!

Who just waited till after having a kid to swap!!!

Do you really not see the difference in preparing a male body to carry a child with all the biology and hormones that would require...

It is laughable i don't see how anyone could believe it in the first place.

This story is 100% fake. It is physiological impossible for a man to birth a child regardless of the number of operations performed. There is so much more to human gestation and birth than simply having a womb.

Hayden is due to give birth because Hayden was born with and still has a womb. No transplant required.

It's the frigging Daily Mail.

Are womb transplants a thing?

Cos it seems the Daily Mail thinks they will be throwing them around soon.

but yeah, its the frigging Daily Mail..... you already know that it's outrage bait, you must, surely?
