How about adding a "Hobbies" board?

I truly enjoy ATS and all the topics and discussions that come up. Honestly, all the intelligent conversations ive had this year, have been with other ATS members.

I collect coins and antiques, and I would love to have a board where I can chat with other members about them.
Im suggesting adding a general "Hobbies" forum. When it comes to hobbies, or collecting, there's many different types. Using a general Hobbies forum can encompass all of them. We (members) can then make sub-topics for the Hobbies of our choice.

I know there's speciality forums and sites for coin collecting and antiques, and I participate in a few of them.
They are O.K., but they are NO ATS!!!
It tends to happen that after chatting with fellow ATS members on a topic, that we meet again on a different topic, and start chatting again. Its great meeting other members and bonding solely on common interests.
I believe a hobbies forum would provide a great way for like minded members to chat and discuss things passionate to them.

With all that said, I would like thank the ATS board and moderators for all the hard work put into maintaining and running THE BEST DAMN FORUM ON THE WEB!!!!

But... these forums ARE a hobby. The existing topics are for people for whom conspiracies are a hobby.

There are plenty of other sites for other hobbies.

(And before the replies start - politics *is* a non-stop stream of conspiracies.)

I agree, but this is the first question that should be answered, how easy is it to add a new sub- category forum ?

Will the software alow it ? Will it take minutes, hours, days ??

At what increased cost to overall operations ??

I would like to see several new categories added.

With out feedback who's to say.

they already have a short story board and had, maybe still do an art contest... both are hobbies.
why not expand, into other hobbies. give some of us a distraction from the constant political crap that seems to have overtaken the boards.

add an entry to the mysql database, copy and paste the template for a forum, photohop a picture for the icon, and add the code to the html.

innit?

I should be a web dev.

Some people just want to watch the world burn (and other hobbies).

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Well, as for hobbies, we already have (takes a really deep breath):

Music Forum, Video Games Forum, Comics Forum, Television Forum, Movies Forum, Literature Forum, Member Art Forum, US Sports Forum, World Sports Forum, Fantasy and Science Fiction Forum, Web Design Forum, Food and Cooking Forum, Travel Forum, Automobile Forum, Health Forum, Pets Forum, Writing Short Stories Forum, Weaponry Forum, History Forum.......

Those are quite a few hobbies there.

As your hobbies are quite specific, you could always start up a thread in Chit-Chat or the Members forum on Coin Collecting, or another one on collecting Antiques.....

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.
