Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and his wife Jane have lawyer'd up amid an FBI investigation into a loan obtained to expand Burlington College while she was its president.

Interesting that a growing number of people around Hillary Clinton are suddenly under FBI scrutiny?

It's not that interesting, maybe last election it would have been. The 2018 election campaigning is heating up.

LOOK here, Jane!

Yes, it is interesting, but not at all unexpected.

Screw you Jane Sanders! As a Vermonter myself, I hope she gets f*cked by the courts/authorities if she really did overstate donors and falsify loan documents.

And if Bernie's Senate office pressured the bank to push through the loan, I hope he gets f***ed too!

The media suppressed this fraud during the election and I am surprised to even now see it come to light. I guess Bernie's influence has fallen.

Sounds to me that she was not a good manager for the college, that purchase should not have been made. I doubt if they can make any charges stick' The heads of Universities and public schools are always making stupid mistakes nowadays, getting their schools buried in debt and giving out salary increases and benefits that are hard to match to revenue, this causes more and more unfunded pensions and waiting for money for the new year to pay last years hidden over expenditures.

This is normal in a lot of schools, one college went wild and built a stadium that was way too big for their games, that severely damaged the local society, that was somewhere in California. Dreams should never be turned into reality without adjusting risk.

Why did the college even need that land. Her job was to manage the school and make sure that things like that shouldn't happen, but it is happening all over the country and nobody does anything to these people causing this kind of stuff to happen. Everyone gets excited about things, but someone has to just say no if it is not feasible. Our whole country is doing this, that is not good, this policy needs to be looked at.

She's actually been cleared by the college for this but... politics. I guess it's good for it to have escalated this far so it can finally be put to rest for good.

They suppressed it so their Queen could have a bona fide loser to stand at podiums and have debates with.

Wasn't this a risky loan based on future promises and not income?

"As HeatStreet reported last year, the college almost immediately fell short on its financial obligations as fundraising pledges and commitments Ms. Sanders cited in the loan agreements never materialized."

Got a link to your claim that the college cleared her?

These folks definitely have not.

BURLINGTON, Vt. - A group of Catholic parishioners want the U.S. Attorney for Vermont to investigate Jane Sanders, the wife of Bernie Sanders, for alleged bank fraud stemming from a land deal she secured as President of Burlington College. "It appears that Ms. Sanders misrepresented confirmed donations in order to get that loan," said Brady Toensing, an attorney and Vice Chair of the Vermont Republican Party. Toensing is representing a group of Catholic parishioners. He alleges Jane Sanders cost the Diocese between $1.6 and $2 million dollars in 2010 and 2011. He says she misrepresented the amount of money Burlington college could raise to support a land purchase from the Catholic Church. A loan from People's United Bank was contingent upon Sanders and the college coming up with more than $2 million dollars. "The bank understood it as confirmed donations," Toensing said.

I don't know what you mean by "cleared". Perhaps you meant to say closed.

What Killed Burlington College? The small Vermont liberal-arts college will close up shop this month, and a controversial real-estate deal made by Jane Sanders, Bernie Sanders’s wife, may be to blame.

I found the story highly interesting.

Especially the parts where Jane Sanders lied about
many of the pledges in order to secure the loan.

Because Ms Sanders lied about the amounts and conditions
of the pledges, on a grand scale.

Then she leaves the college under staggering debt,
causing it to go under completely. It really doesn't
matter that the college did not pursue her.

She lied on loan documents, which constitutes fraud.

Funny she now lives on Lake Champlain
herself with Bernie. Not too shabby for
an old socialist....and his crooked wife.

More here about how the Bank Fraud occurred...

.That loan is the center of the controversy today. Jane Sanders told the bank in 2010 that Burlington College had secured pledges of $2.6 million to support its real estate purchase, according to reporting by the nonprofit news website VTDigger. Such a windfall represented a major jump from the college’s previous fund-raising levels.

On federal tax forms, college leaders reported just $123,013 in nongovernment contributions, gifts and grants for the year ending in June 2010. They recorded another $127,503 in net pledges and grants receivable.

That is why it was a risky loan. It was not income, it was bets.

Ditto this. Though should it have been reported during the election, not much would have changed anyway I'm afraid. Ironic, but all of politics is...

She intentionally misrepresented the amounts of the pledges.

276,000 does not equal 2.6 million.

Does not change facts. Pledges are not guarantee of income. Bank made bad decision, another risky loan.

If she said there were CONFIRMED pledges when there were not that is her lying.

Absolutely, but sometimes more than 1 party is at fault. The bank was just stupid.

LOL. The facts are that loan app/agreement that is signed, verifying
everything is true. When you provide false information
it is fraud. This was not a home loan, bonds were issued.

The FBI wouldn't be involved if it were not criminal.
