Was out fishing one morning on liberty after pulling in to port from being U/W, and had forgotten that the local NAS airshow was that weekend. Had a
great view of the show from the bow of my jon boat while I was fishing. What more can you ask for right?
Well I'm bent over playing with some tackle when I notice a pretty rhythmic thump coming my way. Don't really pay too much attention to it because I'm
thinking it's probably just an MH-65 from the Coast Guard Search and Rescue demo. Seen that about a million times so, I don't even look up. Well this
keeps getting louder and I finally decide to look up and about 200 feet above the bay and 400 yards away, two V-22's were transitioning from forward
flight to hover!!!
Needless to say I was pumped!! Hurried up and reeled in my line and raced toward the stern to start yanking on my outboard. Got her fired up and got a
little closer. They must've have decided to use my the little bay I was fishing in as their staging area for the airshow. For about thirty minutes
they hovered almost directly over me and I got to watch them transition to forward flight maybe 3 separate time from hover, as they were making their
passes in front of the local NAS.
Was a pretty awesome sight to say the least.
