So riddle me this, Batman fans...If Obama was such a great president, why then does practically every investment / retirement fund tank in the 3 year average? Now don't get me wrong, these same funds (pretty much across the board) are soaring under Trump, BUT it's too early to say he's the reason. No, I'm just looking back at historical performance, and to be fair the same or similar funds soared right after Obama was elected too. However, the real truth comes out when you look over the past 10 years, which, by the way, includes 2008. It would be pretty damn hard to not look good when comparing to 4th quarter 2008, right? (For those unaware, 2008 was the big stock market crash and adjustment, the sub-prime bubble collapse and the "too big to fail" nonsense).

So stocks rose after Bush (who admittedly sucked), but then tanked 5 years later and continued to tank for the next 3 years. So averages steadily declined throughout the entire tenure of Obama, up to the point that the aggregate averages were at or below the 2008 numbers.

So, while some may believe in their hearts that Obama was a good president, the business sector and mutual funds in particular certainly don't reflect this. And if business doesn't have any confidence in the leadership then why should anyone else?

Why was Obama so great again???

Obama is only seen as a "good" president because he toed the line for the Globalists and the real people in power, and sold out the interests of the American people for the interests of the wealthy elite. Being a politician these days is more like being a hollywood star - you do what your agent tells you for positive public relations and public image. It has nothing to do with how "good" of a politician/actor/actress you are (although Obama IS a great salesman, so he is able to sell that image).

Obama did a lot of damage to this country and others. Chipping away at our rights, pissing off numerous countries with US imperialism and attacks, and following the Alinsky model to the T - just look at the increase in food stamp/welfare recipients under his administrations.

Obama was good in that he got me to thinking that if his administration was to continue my savings would continue to dwindle in interest rates to zero and where the concept of negative rates bcame be a very real possibility.

It will be interesting to see if we get any more substance here on ATS.

Just crickets from the left so far.

Heh, yep...socialism just one step shy of communism.

And it's clearly reflected in the business sector. The only businesses which did well were those receiving huge government subsidies. That, and oil, because they could stick it to the consumer so far into places where the sun don't shine.

The reason they tanked was racism.

- lots of good times and jokes
- Obamacare
- Manning
- less civilian casualties in less meaningless wars
- support for medical hemp
- great statesmanship
- commitment to the Paris Agreement

Just a quick snapshot from the top of my head. He didn't bring the change many expected, but that would have been a pretty herculean task and he probably did his best (without getting shot like JFK).
The fact, that Big Corp didn't love him that much, is actually another indicator for his good intentions.

I'm far from being a gubbermint fanboy but I can see his efforts and I will always honor that.

Great statesmanship???

Wow, really??

Oh, and what does the Paris accord do for you personally? (except drain your wallet?)

Don't even get me started on Obamacare...that's a whole other thread of it's own (thousands in fact)!!

Casualties went UP, not down! Where did you get this information? Troop draw downs meant more casualties, not less. Plus, ISIS and others re-established footholds in areas where they had previously been eradicated. In fact, some would argue Obama's policies actually lead to the creation of ISIS to begin with.

So let's see, that leaves "hemp" and "Manning". Go figure!

He pushed for LGBT agendas that he didn't actually believe in personally.

Oh, yeah he also put gender neutral bathroom signs in the White House.

Funny how he was elected by a majority white voting population.

A very good question to ask.

I don't have tons of money so I don't really notice a change in the stock market. They only changes my retirement statement for my 401K.

What I look at is the money in my pocket after I pay my bills. For this, I loved Bush. I had money but quickly watched my extras disappear under Obama. It is still too early to see anything that Trump is doing effect me but I am hoping to have the extra spending money again.
(This doesn't even get into how bad he screwed up our healthcare)

Negative interest rates- a concept I never considered until the last few years.
Scary stuff- would end USD with a bang.

His presidency was mostly an attempt at branding, and an awful one. In the end, the US came out looking like a weakened and timid version of itself.

Seriously. That's your reason? Excuses like that are the reason people can't take the Democrats anymore. Failed policies, shoving a horrendous health care bill down our throats and fact that he was one of the worst we've ever had, but all you people can do is point fingers and scream "Racist!!"
Do you still wonder why you keep losing elections?

Because white people don't want to be called racist?

Given the circumstances I'd say he was a good president. He got the US out of recession and prevented us from slipping into WW3. Some forget how bad things really were when Obama came into office. I suppose some people will be happy once Trump undoes everything Obama has done...?

Trump is bad for the environment and basic human rights; the EPA and Planned Parenthood to name a few. Trump's policies will be good for short term gain but the environment will suffer in the long term and Obama is the bad guy? Really?! What happened to ATS?

I'm actually kind of stunned we haven't yet heard the deafening ROAR of ... "But, but, but...He killed OBL!!!"

Okay, but even if they really did get him (which I seriously question), he'd already been as good as dead for a decade before that. More at issue though is, if he was such a great statesman, then why are we still wasting TRILLIONS of dollars in Iraq and Asskrackistan? He promised to get out, and even after getting OBL (the whole reason we were there to begin with)...we're still there! Still, wasting TRILLIONS of taxpayer dollars fighting some kind of a war we will never "win".

On the flip side of the coin though, he did pretty much decimate the US military machine in favor of social programs like free phones and free everything else, none of which is very free at all! So, we've got that...which is also horrible!

I'm really struggling here, struggling to find even a single, meaningful, thing.

Agreed to disagree.

Special thanks to CIASIS and the neo#s in charge btw. That's obviously not Obamas traffic accident, nor did he put up plans to invade 7 countires for "freedom".

Wow, really??

that leaves "hemp" and "Manning"

Agreed to disagree once more and even if you're correct, it's more than no administration at all with a cherry of broken promises on top of the twitter-pie.

Oh, and what does the Paris accord do for you personally? (except drain your wallet?)

It doesn't drain wallets, all it would do is providing answers to the daring question "how to build a future without fossile fuels".

Yeah, they'd rather have their houses burned down instead, and all the liquor stores looted within 50 miles.

So there's something; rioting and racial tension went up under Obama...WAY UP!
