There is something not right about the reflections of the tombstones.

The reflection is not the same.

Maybe an early version of Photoshop existed even way back then.

No,

But, scissors and razor blades do.

Looks like two combined images.

The original cut and paste.

Finally someone else noticed that. I have seen people show off this pic as proof of ghost and what not for years and from day 1 I noticed the reflection of the tombstones is not that same and that means the reflection of the girls in the water is not the girl we see standing there. It is of the 2 girls standing across the water from her that we see reflected.

Really look at it. The girls being reflected are older than the one we see standing and their arms are in different positions.
This looks to me to have been taken by someone with an artists eye. They used the reflection of the water to get all 3 girls in a unique shot.

Right on.

This photo bugged me today for some reason. I'm still not sure what to make of it.

That was not a cell phone.

She was using a very common device prior to modern hearing aids called an "ear trumpet".

That ATS thread went on forever. I'm glad a final determination was made. Thank-you!

Yes I'd like to see some resident ATS photo experts examine it.

It is an enigma.

I think there's been several threads and it pops up in way more plus countless youtube vids.

The ear trumpet is comparitively unknown still to our generations though old timers will remember them.

That was always debatable, you don't talk to yourself using a hearing aid, and there was technology of a kind for wave talk around then. As for SBMcG's request, it is a newsfilm sequence at the opening of a new Charlie Chaplin movie. As for 'photoshop' there were all sorts of techniques for exotic pictures..or hoaxes in the darkroom, as were continued innovations for films. That was part of the magic. To give a more modern example, the film, 'Forbidden Planet' with the late Leslie Neilson was so well made, and put together in the mid 1950's, it still stands the test of time for special effects with far less tech than today. That's creativity for you.

The length of time required to take a photo back then was forever by todays standards . It wasnt a "point and click" back then . Required the model to stand still for a while.
Double exposure either by design or accident. (I think accident , else the photographer was fantastic at what they did)

OK, that makes all kinds of sense...

I hadn't thought about that.

It's been 25 years or so since I used anything other than a digital camera.

How would you explain the black faces in the reflection?

Water as a reflective surface can split images like a prism. I've seen stuff like this in real life in water all the time.

That's true, and ripples could distort those reflections even further.

Do they have to be facing forward? Perhaps the dark color is hair. The one on the left looks like her/its hands are behind

It's doubtful she's still alive. She looks to be 8-10 years of age in the picture which would make her 100 or over now.

I reading Miss peregrine home for peculiar children to my daughter at the moment. Awesome story, we often stop and talk about what might happen in the next part of the story. The photos are really interesting. We are reading it before watching the movie. Have you seen the movie?

Methinks that the talented photographer who did that is a bit dead at the moment.

Shame that there are no known archives on his/hers way of working...
