That's right. North Korea has a well known torture practice of putting their enemies in small wooden boxes with little room to move, and leaving them in there for weeks at a time. They did say that they had noticed that his arms and legs had shrunken in mass. They also said that he had severe Neurological damage. This could have come from electric shock treatments. It's easy for there to be no discernible marks, if these are done by professionals.

There are tension between the US and North Korea obviously.
But there are also tension between North Korea and Israel. Israel claims that NK is providing weapons to Hamas and Hesbollah and North Korea never recognized Israel while they recognized Palestine with a territory matching the entierty of the current Hebrew state.

While the western medias remains silent on the subject, the Israeli ones are getting more obvious :

Was Warmbier an Israeli spy ? I can't tell, but it could be that someone in NK thought he was.
The loss of this individual is tragic and retrospectively, the fact that some mocked him is sickening :

No marks from torture? No oxygen to the brain? They probably held his head under water too long.
