Templars

The Assassins creed games portray Templars in a negative light
apart from Assassins creed Rogue. (Yay Shay)
Templars seem to be the easiest secret society bad guys to pick on.
I cant think of one movie or game where Masons or Rosicrucian's
have been used as the default bad guys
but Templars are fair game ?

In the Assassins creed games you play as an Assassin
a hit man , a killer but it ok because your the good guys ?
While the Templars who are not skulking around in bushes
waiting to kill someone are the bad guys ?

Considering the History of the Templars and what they went through
now centuries later and they are still demonized in books movies and games.

So aren't they irritated ?
would it annoy you if you were always portrayed as the secret baddies ?

Did Templars write a strongly worded letter to Ubisoft ?

How much of the Templars actual role has been twisted by forms of media ?
tv movie game etc

If you are a Templar
How do you feel about the way the world see's you and how it uses your Order ?

Do you think its fair that your the go to secret bad guys ?

Did any of you invest in Ubisoft ?

Really the biggest issue we have is the inexcusable lack of portrayal of the beards.

You're talking about a group that's over 900 years old and supposedly disbanded in the 1300s.

Whether they are still around or not.. the point is... EVERYTHING you know about them has been fed to you by the media. I'm talking 900 years of stories that have been wish-washed over and over.

Yep even all that. That history of "what they went through" are just stories to you and me because we weren't there. Neither were your parents. Or your grandparents. Or even your grandparents great grandparents.

Assassins Creed? Tip of the iceberg.

I'm pretty sure medieval Iran had a legendary group of Hashassins, and was having conflicts Saudi Arabia. The whole sunny people vs the others guys. This was supposed to before the Crusades or may even led to it. Due to one of the European newly iniatied king or prince got killed by one of them happened to be walking about drunk at night, like he was on vacation.

And these aren't some stupid sleeper waiting to explode an spread fear. They go for the back like it was Dark Souls, and cut the head off.

ok, I'll play!

No group of people in possession of and charged with the protection of the Holy Grail are concerned with the opinions of the peasants.

The Grail must be protected, and the more misinformation about their history the better.

So no.. I don't think they care.

You sound angry over something so insignificant. It is a video game.

Do you belong to the order? If so, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Doesn't matter, they don't exist anymore. Oh, sure, there are plenty of groups laying claim to the title, making fancy costumes and grand titles for themselves, but they're basically cosplaying as an extension of the Victoria-era obsession with secret societies. The Templars as originally constituted are dead and gone, there's no one left to complain.

I agree that they are demonised in some stories and games, but if anything the romantic mythology overall has been very kind to them. Certainly much kinder than the real people who tortured and executed the senior figures in their leadership.

For the last 700 years, the false allegations against the Templars has gone nearly unchecked. The Chinon Parchments, which vindicates the Templars of all wrong doings, wasn't brought to the public sphere until the 21st Century.

Templar worship of Baphomet, sodomy, and religious blasphemy were all invented charges. Those long-held false accusations have been engrained into our folklore through the countless writings berating and decrying the Templars.

As we now have the benefit of hindsight and contemporary evidence, I feel that we should be doing everything we can to propagate the truth instead of parroting the old lies,... because it is from the overzealous lies and half-truths of certain conspiracy theories that casts a negative shadow on even the most benevolent and altruistic of the secret societies.

I agree with you. OP, good on you.

The Catholic church used these guys to wage wars, they lived a life of sacrifice and then the church tossed them to the wolves.

Not only did they kill them, they stained their name.

A group of honorable and self sacrificing warriors in service of the faith, were treated worse than enemies.

F that. Screw the moldy old church and lets give these guys a fresh coat of redemption paint.

May the church suffer their fate.
