What is going on in South Africa

I live in Gauteng, South Africa - Gauteng is basically an anagram for "Get A Gun" as you will need one. Anyway just to comment on the above statement, I do not know ANY South African's, regardless of colour, who has not been directly affected by crime. To give you a few examples;

1. Older Sister: pulled over and gang raped on her way home from work was also sexually assaulted and abused inside a shopping mall (no one did anything)
   
2. Younger Sister: Car stolen. attempted hi-jacking where she managed to get away
   
3. Brother in-law: Hijacked at around 7am where the placed him in the boot of his car and drove him around until around 9pm and dropped him off miles from anywhere and told him to run for his life
   
4. Close friend: same situation as my brother in-law except they striped him naked and tried to shoot him, he battled back and managed to escape into the bushes and survived (thank God)
   
5. Myself: Mugged and beaten, house burgled more than once, car stolen
   

Those are just a few examples of what we deal with here, everyone here has a story to tell without fail. I count my friends & family as lucky as we are still here to live our lives, many others are not as fortunate.

We all have private security companies to give us a false sense of security but the best security is obliviousness by not following the news too much and dare I say "desensitizing" yourself to it else you will go mad - that or get a gun and shoot back however in most cases this just gets you dead. This sounds like a cop out or hiding from reality but trust me, reading about babies being kidnapped and raped as a "cure for aids", couples where the husband is raped and the wife is beaten just to spread fear for no other reason than fear itself, more murders, more rapes, this will seriously just depress you.

The most common response to someone who lives to tell of a crime is "At least they did not kill you..." and life goes on.

Is it a "Black" thing? I know many many black people, some who I consider great friends and they are suffering the exact same crimes. I do not know what the answer is but making it about race is trivializing the issue imo.

Sounds like Guntang has got a bit of an edge to it. If evryone has a story like yours then surely there would be a popular revolt / revolution by now? Surely if the people are going through that then revolution is in the air right?

Yeah i can see it now the Mandela created government being taken down by the White SA's again. It would be justifiable in our eyes but you just know the UN will step in and punish them.

If your family are being murdered then surely you'd take up arms yeah?

Maybe the minorities are so worn down that they offer no resistance. It's hard to believe how the African whites and Indians are taking it when you consider they beat everywhere in southern Africa at one time and made it home, even making the British military during the Boer Wars have their greatest shock in hundreds of years. I don't get it.

True. well we can offer them all a place in our countries instead.. Better than watching white SA's drug through the streets and spitted on spears.

I just don't get it. Only 20 years since the apartheid finished, there must be hundreds of thousands of military trained ex forces. Plus the Indians, Jews, English and Africaaners have the wealth still yeah? Plus education/expertise has to be on their side still? I just don't get how they can take such a situation without a fatal blow in return. The minorities may be outnumbered but with with serious concentration surely they could change their fortune? The will must be there?

You look at how Jews were attacked 70/80 myears ago all around the world be forces massively bigger than their often 1% /

Howzit,nice to meet another South African here on ATS As you say,for a local it would be depressing enough to drive one mad if one had to delve too deep,too long into the details and the enormity of what we have to live with.A good friend recently had to go ID the body of her son's girlfriend's dad.Victim of a farm murder close to where we live.I wish she didn't tell me what they did-head caved in,nails driven into his skull before they stabbed him to death..

Wife beaten and raped,family friend beaten and stabbed.

The things one learns,it damages the human psyche.It is psychological warfare for the ones who come to know of the levels of evil and sheer demonic hatred.It shatters the lives of the survivors too,and to know what their loved ones endured before death,is a constant torture that never lets up.

Idk what to tell you except hang in there.I don't know about you,but we are financially unable to leave.

We're in Mpumalanga Province,btw.We live on a goldmine,in a tiny village out here in the Bush.It's probably a bit safer here,as it is within the mine property.

There are only about 3+half million of us.So many able bodied people left after 1994,leaving behind the ones too poor to leave.The average people who has to work every day all day long and eke out a living and fall into bed exhausted every night,hoping to wake up unslaughtered. At least half of the white population would be children and elderly.And we are spread out over the country.And this generation of our youth has gone soft,interested only in selfies and social media.It is not possible.

These terrorists attacking your farms. They are using exactly the same tactics used to remove German popultions from modern day Poland, Hungary, Czech etc towards the end of WW2 and after too. Between 12 - 14 million forced from their ancestral homes for hundreds of years. Exactly the same tactics. Do you think these terorists were trained by the USSR in the 80's to use the same tactics?

I think the farm attacks are mostly done by regular people,or should i say regular homocidal hate ridden criminals,quite frankly.What does make one wonder,is that with these horrific farm murders,often nothing or very little is taken.Which comes across as more of a campaign of trying to intimidate the remaining white farmers to abandon their lands,and to intimidate future white farmers from continuing on their course.In that way it seems as if many of these farm murderers are paid agents of a government that wishes to rid the country of white farmers..which would be the death of the agricultural sector.There are no black professional farmers to take the place of the white ones..it is madness.

Had there been an army of black capable experienced farmers,there would at least have been some diabolical logic to it- kill one group and replace with another.But the stupidity of the ANC is matched only by it's arrogance.Of course there are independent actors when it comes to farm murders- but it does seem to many locals that there's a government agenda at play also.The banning of the highly effective commandos,the rhetoric coming from "leaders" like Zuma,and the difficulties for whites in obtaining firearm licences,plus no proactive plans forthcoming from the ANC to protect the farmers,despite endless pleas and petitions through the years,paints an incriminating picture.

Hopefully one day we will stop winding the clock and allow the pendulum to remain still. Maybe then we stand a chance at putting this insanity behind us.

Agreed. I'm always amazed at how obtuse people become when thinking humans are any different from an organized group of animals in the wild. Let's look at a pride of lions for example. If the two males who are at the head of the pride are losing their strength, power, and ability to secure the best feeding grounds then another set of male lions will begin attacking the two older / weaker males. EDIT: I will take the "it's us or them" a little farther. Suppose you are a father or mother and a person is threatening to hurt your child. Your survival and protective instinct is going to hopefully take over to where you actively prevent harm of your child. Even if that results in you killing another human being then so be it. Natural selection is about a species ability to adapt to their environment and remain strong and prosper. It's the very primal core of what lies at the heart of any species on this planet and humans are no different.

That reasoning gave birth to Apartheid...it was never about oppression, but rather about survival at the expense of others...just as wrong though.
