How do we bring the press back to what they were? How do we get them to cover the real news?

By making a more informed choice about what we watch and read. Remember they need us for revenue. It is where we choose to place our attention that holds the real power here.

Letting the government take over main parts of our lives is a bad bad idea. The media is part of our society and thus belongs to us all. We should be holding them more accountable for what they report but let the government take over? Never!
I agree. We have to hold our politicians and the media more accountable. We need to start fielding the people that we would like to see representing us. Protests are one That are not as effective as most would have you think. It's too easy to co-opt and make it apear that they are violent. Violence is out of the question of course. Litigation is how you win in a society of laws.

And our money. Boycotting sounds dumb but it works if enough people do it. If we stop giving them our money, they won't have any.

Please stop pretending that there are no violent right wingers.

Please don't pretend that Michael Savage is right wing. He's a shock jock troll who spent his formative years as part of various liberal, hippy, and socialist circles in San Fransisco, learned a handful of conservative dog whistle impersonations, and filled a void in California radio... that void being a personality on the radio who was as ridiculous a parody of the far right as Peter Collins and Bernie Ward were to the far left in the San Fransisco market.

He's a goddamned joke, not to mention a total fraud. MIchael Weiner is also, coincidentally enough, the father of Russell Goldencloud Weiner, the billionaire founder of Rockstar energy drinks. These folks have made a fortune off of gullible pleebs on both sides.

The Media as we know it isn't going to change. It's a corporate business and the Corporations tell the politicians what to do, when to jump and how high. Not the other way around...

I would suggest that the media as we know it has already changed. Newspapers and television are headed for the dumper on this digtal planet. You don't populate your worldview using one source...you scan the resources available and draw upon that. I include The Intercept and Al Jazeera English when I try to make sense of global affairs.

They may not be telling me what I want to hear...but I'd say that's a good thing!

I'm just sitting here laughing my ass off at the neverending Jerry Springer show y'all are living in.

Seriously. And we know there's only one way it ends. Turn off the media and quit playing these partisan games. LOL
That is the answer. The enemy is not one or the other party. It is anyone who would normalize chaos and manipulate masses. When people learn to govern themselves, there will be no need for laws.

When people learn how to think for themselves there will be no need for the main stream media, left or right.

People that can't think for themselves watch TV and listen to talk radio.

Media Matters is purely a socialist left-wing propaganda spin Center. Ran by George Soros and Company. I did not hear Michael Savage's remarks but, I would not put it past Media Matters to twist anything he said into a negative headline.

Hmm, I don't think he's a joke. His book Liberalism is a Mental Disorder was spot on and ahead of its time.

But that's missing half the picture. Conservatism is also a mental disorder. Both need to be treated. That's why he's so crazy.. he can't see the other side of the picture or the whole picture.

A populace with no free press is a much easier to control populace. Look at North Korea, China and Russia

The difference is thats under threat of death over there.

Here the propaganda arm of the political party that shall remain nameless LIE of their own volition.

BIG DIFFERENCE.

There needs to be a set of parameters within which the media as a whole are obliged to operate.

With regards to news it should actually police itself, but lately...not so much.

There should be a reference system created by an independent and multi platform body that can then designate the worthiness of news.

Colour code it if you like. Blue, pink, red and black or whatever.

I think we would still like to get the news every day. A free thinker can watch whatever and come to their own conclusions. We need good information to be properly educated about the world. We are not getting good information at the moment. We are witnessing a civil war between our two political parties. This would be a fine time for a rational voice to speak up.

It is the Mud Pit so I shouldn't be surprised by FEMA/NAZI camps blah, blah, blah.

But the comparison that should be made is the often proposed "Fainess Doctrine" (usually by ol' Chucky Schummer himself) as a means to put the squeeze on conservative talk radio.

But to be fair to Michael "Savage" Weiner (yes that is his real name) who thinks he might hit the big time with a nationally syndicated talk show about nutrition (yes, Mr. Weiner is a nutritionist by profession) let's set the way back machine to a lovely 2009 article by Time that allows us to realize that liberal bias by the big three is nothing new at all. 1949 was a long time ago folks.

He's ramped up the crazy over the years. I think the underlying truths of that book were on point, but as with so much of this stuff you use truths to draw the common folks in and then season it with crazy to dog whistle the weak into your fold. Speaking as someone who is probably further to the right on most issues than the average Republican, Savage does my causes a lot more harm than good, and those are causes he claims to support.

Yes, I want America's borders closed: but wild hare yelling and screaming about it isn't the way that will be achieved.

Yes, I want English to be the official language of the USA... but colloquially speaking Spanish in parts of the nation initially inhabited by Latinos isn't a threat to this country's sovereignty in any way. WHile we're on this, he needs to extract the bug from his ass over the Catholic Church. Had the GOP had a frog's hair cut five way's worth of common sense, years and years ago they would have pointed out that the party's morality is almost in lock step with where the Vatican stood and we'd have never seen the Democrat affair with Rome occur... an affair which is still giving the USA a recurring case of the clap every election cycle.

Yes, I want America's culture protected and left largely unchanged... but a lot of what he rails against is actual American culture. An example would be his idiotic comments on Autism somehow being tied to single parent homes and, thus, tied to destruction of the nuclear family as part of America's culture. A hell of a lot of single parent homes existed 80 years ago in this country, caused by the world's greatest homewrecker: war. So it is a stretch to say single parent homes are a novel thing, but boy howdy is it ever a mammoth stretching of reality to suggest autism is related to it all.

I agree with him on Islam, I agree with a lot of what he says on various issues... UNTIL he start ranting and railing and then I start wondering "did he say what he thought I'd want to hear to get me to start listening, then intentionally drop the crazy bomb? If so, what angle is he working here?" I personally believe the dude is a ringer to keep the low hanging fruit occupied.

I agree with him.

I want to take it a step further though and move all political dissenters into centrally located communal groupings. You know, kind of concentrating them in several secure areas until we can devise some sort of solution to the problem.

We could call those places camps.

Of course they only need to stay in those camps until a final solution is found
