American Ex is sticking with sponsorship of the Public Theater. The funds help sponsor the play that depicts the assignation of Trump. But American Ex is "discomforted" with the content.

American Express is trying to have it both ways: Not offending liberal customers who see no problem with the content of a New York City play depicting the assassination of President Trump, while also attempting to claim its dollars aren’t going to support it.

On Monday, the company followed Delta and Bank of America in expressing its discomfort with the play by the NYC Public Theater.
www.theamericanmirror.com...

American Ex does not fund the the production of the play Shakespeare in the park, but the do throw $$ in the Public Theaters coffers. So the public theater gets $$$ but not directly. Delta Airlines and Bank of America pulled it's funding, they must understand this is no place for a company to stick it's profits.

“We would like to clarify that our sponsorship of the Public Theater does not fund the production of Shakespeare in the Park nor do we condone the interpretation of the Julius Caesar play,” the company tweeted.

That’s only slightly disingenuous, because, as anyone with common sense knows, once the funds go into the Public Theater’s coffers, they mix together and can be used to fund any production.

I find the content of the 'play' disgusting and don't really see it as art, but as therapy for some butt-hurt liberals. However, there is no reason to censor things just because they are offensive.

We have enough bullcrap censorship through organizations like Media Matters. I want the freedom to be exposed to all points of view and opinions even if I don't like some of them.

I think AMEX is making the right call.

edit on 2017/6/13 by Metallicus because: (no reason given)

Maybe that could lead to an answer to my previous post.

Well and simply put, Metallicus. I find it repugnant... and so many and much of the arts lean leftward in their bias...

But journalists and artists are one of the last bastions of critical speech... and frankly, there's not much left of critical speech.

But... the pendulum does swing back and forth, right?

This is a corp, and the must legally maximize profits.

The US is a 50/50 split. Offending 1/2 is not a good business decision. If this were an Obama play, how would the leftists respond?

Riots or calmly talking.

Not really. All the people getting bent about this need to realize it's been done time and again with many other people, including President's.

Let the leftists get their assassination fetish on.

It keeps them off the streets.

I don't think anyone did anything wrong.

Just poor taste if anything.

It's freedom of speech.

If we don't defend the right for them to do this, then we're no better than the pathetic leftists who do actively try to suppress free expression.

Maybe they'll click on the links and see that even Shakespeare took shots at Queen Elizabeth.
