CNN cuts ties with Reza Aslan following anti-Trump tweets

CNN has parted ways with "Believer" host Reza Aslan less than a week after the religious scholar came under fire for a series of heated tweets he made about President Trump.

"CNN has decided to not move forward with production on the acquired series 'Believer with Reza Aslan' (season two)," a CNN rep told Fox News. "We wish Reza and his production team all the best."

Aslan responded, “Obviously I am very disappointed in this decision. 'Believer' means a great deal to me and to the countless viewers it’s reached. Its message of religious tolerance and exploration is extremely important right now.”

Aslan's tweets came after Trump's June 3 remarks regarding the terrorist attacks in London, calling Trump an "embarrassment to America and a stain on the presidency" and a "piece of s--t."

He later apologized for his language.

It is about time networks start getting rid of these people who act like anything other than a civilized person. Now MSNBC needs to get with the program and deal with some of their problem children.

CNN trying to save what little (if any) integrity they have left.

Changed News Network.

Isn't that a good thing? Maybe they will become less fake news.

CNN has taken a turn for the worst and has ethics that would raise eyebrows in the court of Caligula.

Slowly but surly the MSM gets picked off.

CNN must be getting some negative feedback from advertisers !!!

Calling Trump a POS shouldn't get you fired.

He was probably just liquored up at the time, having a bad week.

This isn't even remotely in the same category as what's her name and self shrinking head gimmick.

Apparently this isn't the first time. He's made comments about Trump in the past, and Paul Ryan, and others. His tweets regarding Republicans seem to be laden with eff bombs and wishing them to be raped. I agree he shouldn't be fired for it but there seems to be a pattern. CNN is cutting their losses apparently.

If networks were to get rid of anyone who said negative things about Trump, then there wouldn't be any networks left.

This makes no sense.

So much for the Free Speech the right wingers constantly cry about huh? It's ok to stifle Free Speech as long as it fits your parties agenda right?
The guy tells the truth and gets canned for it that sucks.

More like the MSM is slowly becoming aware of the fact that Trump isn't going anywhere and have given pause to the agenda they've been operating on.

It's a bit surprising that it's CNN that seems to be the first one to 'smell the roses' and yes, MSNBC would be wise to follow suit. No WH press briefings would cut their air time down significantly....

I agree with you, but we've seen TV personalities fired over much less over the past 5-10 years. ESPN fired Curt Schilling over tweets that were far less offensive and controversial than Aslan's.

He can stay as far as I care, I don't watch Commie News Network. But you may want to take your tissues and puppy over to CNN, see if they have a safe space for you, and you can ask them why they canned him. Perhaps it is about advertising $.

Stated in a conversation where most of the participating "right wingers" are at the least ambivalent, at the most opposed to the man's firing over his comment...

When the did the government do anything here regarding his free speech? After all, THEY are the ones the Constitution guarantees protection against, not private entities.

Perhaps a lesson on the meaning and scope of the Bill of Rights is in order for you...I suggest you read and understand it before spouting off your rhetoric here.

To be clear, there was no breach of the 1st Amendment here.
