Eerie Helicopters Circle at Night...

(sorry, double post - accidental)

I don't know about where everyone else lives, but here in Oklahoma City, at least in the last two years I've lived here, I have noticed an increasingly number of helicopters that circle and often hover right over my apartment complex.

Not just mine, though. I moved about a year ago to a different location within the same city, and they do the same thing here, but more and more frequently.

I also, when I hear them fading away, look and see that they are just doing the same thing in another part of the city.

I started wondering about them, and tried to research them on Google. But came up with nothing more than they are starting new training programs, and the students are learning the grid of the city.

I'm starting to think that that is not reason enough for all the money it must cost for fuel and maintenance, and the manpower it must involve to keep them up every single night - from the time the sun goes down until the time it rises.

What does any other members know or think of this.

And, does this occur in other cities and countries around the world? If so, how long has it been going on?

Are you sure they are not police copters? The activity you descirbe fits that type of flying??

I live in Miami and i've noticed this as well. Ever since a few weeks ago everytime i leave my house in the morning there are always two helicopters flying around the area. I always figured they were news or police helicopters but upon closer inspection you can see that they are white and unmarked.

I noticed unusual helicopter activity yesterday (or maybe the day before). I sa a low flying chinook circling overhead and landing pretty close by.

It's the first time I've ever seen one of those. Hmm....

I guess the first thing you should do is to

1. Identify the aircraft by type (which would require you to get some pictures of them at an Internet website)

2. Log when you see/hear them, including day of the week and time of day/night;

3. Get some pictures of them if poasible; and

4. Correlate their presence with any other activity,such as accidents being reported, police sirens, news in the local papers of military exercises, etc.

You're going to have to do some research here, if you want answers.

They were doing the same with A Blackhawk in Plymouth MA. However they run a recruiting station out of an Armory, they do it to excite potential conscripts

Actually, the past month or so, it's been inconsistent, but I've seen more helicopters than usual. And it was just a couple of nights ago that I heard what sounded like one passing over at least twice. The first one I saw was early in the morning, it was getting light out. I couldn't see any news channel markings, and in the distance it almost looked like an apache. I was probably just euphoric because I just woke up, but I was thinking maybe something got loose on the golfcourse that we live on. Maybe the chupacabra (my biggest fear in that category). But it was freezing and snowy. Maybe I'm just joining in on your enthusiasm.

yeah i see a ton of definately army choppers around here, mainly the blackhawk, and chinooks, ill also see apache's every now and then

but here of late ive been noticeing more and aircraft, like the C-5a galaxy
and a stratolifter* and c130's i seriouly see these at least three times a week just goin in circles, i think they are doin touch and goes, tho. BUt i seriouly see alot of them. of course i do live near the redstone arsenal
which is the home of US missle command and US missle intel, and tons and tons of nasa, lockheed martin etc.

they also do some missle test and rocket test out there also

Ok folks, heres one to muse over...

Ever read UFO monthly, a good, solid UFO mag published in the UK? Just before the Editor, G. Birdsall died, the magazine did a series of articles about a black gazelle helicopter, running with fake markings and also, the registration was all wrong! This helicopter was painted black and yellow, as to look like a police helicopter, but with a little bit of digging, a retired police officer found it to be all wrong.
With many landings reported, and many dangerous, and unexplained low flying, it made it into the magazine. They chased it up, but, with the death of the editor, the magazine died with it, and along went the first concrete proof that black helicopters are running around our countries operating way above the law.

yeah, ive seen groups of blackhawks here in new orleans. mostly on nights and weekends when im driving across lake pontchatrain, but every now and then theyre out in daytime. its really odd.

OffTheStreet's advice I have followed. Meaning in the past I did steps 1-3 on my own. They were blackhawk helicopters that flew over my residence every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday between 10am-2pm. I even capturedd a picture of one hovering very close to my house. I thought it violated the law by being too low. I ended up flicking off one of the choppers because this had been happening for 3 months straight and I never found out step #4. Even if you do steps 1-3, step 4 is always going to be the hardest/most impossible part. I never reported the choppers because who would I report them to? That's right the same people who fly the choppers...meaning the government. I think they were scanning houses and wooded areas for marijuana. They consistently surveyed the area during the summer months.

Cyberkat, Tinker AFB is the major repair depot for USAF. Of course, the USAF has plenty of rotary wing aircraft, and most of them are being outfitted for night capabilities (if they are not already). It is likely that higher traffic than normal is occurring on account of modifications being made to support ongoing military operations, or routine overhauls/updates needed after a certain number of flight hours (which would have certainly increased for the deployed forces lately).

again, like offthestreet noted, identifying the type of aircraft would help. but then, repairs to night vision subsystems might be performed, and tested on entirely different aircraft. there are many possibilites here. and perhaps the helo's are unrelated to Tinker's main mission, but i would humbly suggest that such increased activity may have something to do with Tinker, and not be anything suspicious at all.

What, so now a government isn't allowed to patrol its country? could just be a terrorist watch or something? Neighborhood Watch?

haha, what kind of a Neighborhood watch uses multiple blackhawk helicopters? Sign my hood up.

The stuff you spoke about--circling and hovering is usually police activity. Weird that it is early in the morning, do you live near a jail? or in a rough neiborhood? Once they were looking in my yard, and then I saw a "suspect" run through the parking lot next to my house at 3 AM! Yikes!

In my area, there are all kinds of helicopters, but I live near a hospital, a tourist heliport, a police heliport, coast guard station etc.

I've seen blackhawks, together with the coast guard chopper (they have stripes) but they were "escorting" a boat into the harbor.

I think that is way scarrier than having police helicoptors over your house, that boat could have had a bomb or something...

Hey I live right on the lake (northshore) and they had one circling a pretty large area a couple of days ago. This was at around 3 am it woke me out of my sleep. I went outside to check it out but I couldn't make anything out in the dark.. Just the spotlight that was shining from it. At first I thought police searching for someone, but the area was very large that they were concentrating on. It did have a odd sound to it that made me think it was military. I have seen heard other helis before but this one sounded unique.

I saw two CH-46 Navy helecopters fly over my house this passed weekend, followed about five minutes later by an F-14.

I live near and work on a Navy shore test site. Seeing the F-14 is uncommon, but our facility tests with them every now and then. However, since it was Memorial Day weekend, the site I work at was shut down. On holidays we aren't allowed to work even if we want to.

The CH-46's are very rare here, and I've never seen two together here before. I've probably seen three total in the seven years I've been here. I used to see them all the time when I was in the Navy, but I believe I am too far from Norfolk for them to have come from there.

Normally I would have just thought "cool" and gone about my business, but being a holiday weekend it was very unusual. The CH-46 is a large, twin rotor transport helo. I got to ride in one once to see a doctor on an amphibious assault ship when we were crossing the Atlantic. The two I saw this weekend were painted the standard Navy haze gray. I know about every Navy ship that is excersizing off our coast because my site links with them and does passsing excersizes, and there was nothing off the coast this weekend that would carry CH-46's.

About a couple months ago I was getting some unusual helicopter traffic. Every 10 - 15 minutes one heli would do a flyby right over my house. The bird was pretty close to the ground to, I could tell because the windows were doing some rattling. I couldn't tell if the helicopter was military or police.

I've seen Apaches before, circling over my neighborhood and the outlying areas. They were painted black and appeared to be patrolling, some would just hover. I didn't understand why military patrol would be needed for a quiet residential area.

Not really, there's a big naval station in New Orleans, makes sense they would be flying around.

Its scary when you are growing a bunch of cannabis on Magazine Street and the copters pass by while you are watering them...[[[[[shiver]]]]]
