It's also why I think DBCowboy should be a mod. Him and a couple others here are very good at diffusing these types of threads. In a good way.

Yep, I miss Beez. Cowboy is one of the ones I can joke with because it's easy to tell when he's joking.

In any case, I've always liked you. I know your husband and you both have some ideological differences that are counter to the core of my being but I can tell it's not out of genuine malice but simply a different knowledge set (not saying lesser knowledge set, mind you).

So... honestly, cheers. My boyfriend just texted that he's coming home safely (on the MAX, no less) and I'm less on edge. A couple of beers might have helped. Either way, these moments are what keeps me from saying "# you all" and getting myself banned.

Deep down, I think most of you are decent people. There. I said it. Now # off.

I disagree with you on things, but that's as far as it goes. I like to think that adults can disagree on some things and understand that on other things we can get along just fine.

I honestly don't hate anyone here, never have. The day I do, is likely the day I leave.

No, I'm saying no mosque should hold a rally in that city a week after the attack.

I like that, except when it comes to any ideology, the rally should wait at least 1,258 years before the next one.

1,258 years is a ridiculously long time to wait. Just like one week is a ridiculously short time to wait.

Quit making ridiculous arguments. There is no slippery slope. One week is being a dick. Wait longer.

Don't arbitrarily make up your own rules on how long it takes for communities to heal.

Yes. And the legal alcohol limit for driving may as well be a thousand beers since it's a few. Because nobody had any sense of temperance.

I guess when the Kansas City snipers were shooting at people on my regular drive routes, I was affected personally by them even though they never actually shot at me.

That's sort of offensive in the same way I found it offensive when I was in college and a man broke into our House, into my personal room that I shared with two roommates, sexually assaulted one of them, and then the next day, some girl who lived on another floor was all carrying on as though she were the one who lived in our room and was violated.

That was offensive.

Just because she lived on another floor, not being directly affected, doesn't necessarily mean she was being a "SJW", "attention seeker", or histrionic, or what have you, about it. You never know* they may have had a past where the same has happened to them, that brings back stress from that time which can cause the mind to shut down and or act irrational.

*(unless you did know her more than that)

Anyway, we'll have to agree to disagree on the subject overall. IMO was too soon to have this protest(Yes, I know permits, etc were entailed), and am happy at least the "March Against Sharia" was moved. I do agree with the free speech of the matter, not an issue, it's that adding to the tense atmosphere of things can make for a risky situation.

I do hope people who observed found what each side sought beyond bickering. That apparently the "Free Speech" rally was not all White Supremacy backed as the opposite side may have thought as according to interviews being streamed. Happy as well that it went without incident. I'll note more in my next reply.

I'm wondering about the question I asked out of curiosity. Is it wrong then that the "March Against Sharia" was moved to another city?

If I'm near there that day I will cover the event for people interested in what is going on. Hopefully it will go smoothly as the Portland "Free Speech" went today for the most part.

I'm pretty limited on the device AFK from my usual one, but have looked into through the day.

OregonLive has a nice breakdown. In short it went mostly without incident, thankfully. Only a few anti protest protestors were arrested. I want to note that the Democratic Socialist protestors distanced themselves in their stationed areas from AntiFa, because as quoted from a steaming interview-"Antifa are too violent".

IMO that should be good news to hear for either side. As well as the "Free Speech" protestors not all aligning with White Supremacy as some thought before hand.

I didn't say she was, but I find the concept of someone needing to grieve like that a bit much.

Does she similary grieve over every person murdered in Portland's inner cities? Somehow, I think not. I don't think that offends her so deeply that she needs to see things postponed so everyone in the city can don sackcloth and ashes as though personally affected.
