Between Music's AquaSonic: Breaking the surface


Breaking boundaries, they are basically the first under water band. This Danish act uses custom made instruments. They also don't use any breathing apparatuses.

The artists conducted countless experiments in collaboration with deep-sea divers, instrument makers and scientists to develop entirely new, highly specialized subaqueous instruments. These include an underwater organ or hydraulophone, crystallophone, rotacorda, percussion and violin. The team also perfected a distinctive vocal technique for underwater singing. The result is a concert experience completely out of the ordinary; a deep dive into a magical new universe of images and sounds.

We usually create sounds by exhaling. Even when we yell underwater we exhale and bubbles come out.

This technique they use to sing underwater, where they don't really exhale since no bubbles are created, except the large one they keep in their mouth that prevents the water from going in when they sing... well, it's kinda cool.

This is probably much more difficult to do than it seems at first. Very interesting stuff, thanks.
