Specialists and generalists are knowledge profiles that are independent from politics.

Though, arguably the specialist skill set requires a fundamental understanding and trust in basic science.

But generalists have a systemic knowledge that is also very valuable and arguably lends itself to understanding climate science as well.

All of that said..Robots will replace specialists before generalist. AI is already set to displace some professions in the legal and medical fields that are highly specialized. A generalist, system wide understanding of complex trade-offs and the implications of how a system works and it's alternate impacts...remains a very human ability.

I think the distinction is psychological. Identity politics, ideological-emotion intermixing.

Ask a Trump supporter WHY they like Trump and you quickly get into a muddy emotional place not based in pragmatic outcome of policy or agenda. They "love" that he "upsets" "liberals"..emotional political identity salad like that.

Fear, Anger, defending Trump because of self-identity..

Populists are adept at personalizing politics. Trump supporters feel as if their own self identity is being attacked when people debate policy, politics and facts.

Once a populist has leeched onto the self-identity part of a supporters brain, they will defend themselves like their own self worth is being attacked, but do so in a factual debate.

It becomes a flat earth discussion.

Everyone excited about seeing our emissions increase?

Good thing we can get back in after 4 years, he is such a wasteful president, mirrors the waste he is himself.

Whats the Paris Agreement do that you like it so much?

What about the environment and our Earth do you hate so much that you dont want to protect it?

or, do you believe global warming is a hoax...thats it, stupidity taking over our country

Look - here is a fact you lefties don't seem to grasp.

Here is a fact you "right wingers" don't seem to grasp..

EVERYWHERE else on planet earth, climate change is not a "lefty" "Right Winger" debate...It is KNOWN SCIENCE...

The right wing have embraced a pseudo religion meets industry propaganda campaign.

It is bizarre to see people dismiss math and science as a political view in 2017.

The rest of the world is fundamentally stumped how a chunk of Americans can be so gullibly stupid.

Here is what those seizing on the withdrawal from the Paris agreement don't understand - the agreement offered almost no benefit to global temperature reductions.

(A) That is HIGHLY debatable, and a debate that highly favors the scientific community
(B) I don't care

It was an agreement that afforded US interests and companies a seat at the table as Global deals are signed and trillions are spent.

That is why the CEO's of Exxon and other large US energy companies opposed the exit.

While limiting emissions costs them X in near term profits. Shutting them out from the global economy and inevitable future of energy technology costs them MUCH MORE.

This also why China and Russia are cheering the US exit. Trump has abdicated the US position in the future of energy technology. This is a long term hit to the US economy and it's companies.

Trump is hurting American Companies...
