People come and go, some stay, some depart, everyone has their reasons why. We could speculate and blame one single individual for ATS's demise, but since this has been a theme for a number of years now, we can rule out blaming the elephant in the room - in my opinion, 'this' started around the time of, wait for it........Benghazi and by the time 2013 hit and Obama won a 2nd term, things started heating up - just ask beezzer and others who were here during the 2012 election win.

Things have been the same ever since imo, so in the 5+ years I've been here, the political rhetoric has been consistent and has not changed - only the names of the politicians have.

Anyway, hopefully slayer will be back, and Heff and skyfloating too, but I think one on your list there has passed away. (a mod)

Right now, we're living the largest conspiracy I've seen in a while, but it's been brewing beneath the surface for decades.

Unfortunately, there is only so much that can be said about it.

I've been waiting for someone to notice the Portland food cultural appropriation craziness but no one has.

Oh, and some of them are still around, they just aren't posting.

I'm definitely anti-Trump, Jeff Sessions, and Steve Bannon. They represent everything unholy about government. If you want to call me partisan for that, knock yourself out.

But the fact remains, a lot of good long time posters have left because of the Trump brigade's screeching here on ATS.

And I can't say I entirely blame them.

Topic fatgue for me. It also works in a downward spiral because the more of us that tire of Trump threads and visit less frequently the more the board seems full of nothing else.

When I was younger I loved going to bars and clubs on the weekends. I've got a pretty good sense of humor and generally was a very gregarious and fun guy after a few drinks. Hanging out with a large group of friends and strangers was extremely enjoyable and compelling for me. It was something I looked forward to doing all week long.

However I quickly learned that some people can't handle their liquor and I developed quite a knack for picking out which guy or group of guys were going to get a few drinks into them and then start throwing sucker punches or starting trouble.

Once I pegged a person or group as having that trait - I avoided them like the plague and steered clear. Not out of fear or because I'm all snowflakey... But because cuts and bruises hurt, bouncers are big and generally don't discriminate who is wrong or right in a melee and holding cells just plain suck.

I'm sharing this anecdotal information because for quite a few months now, America has felt a lot to me like a bar filled to overflowing with guys who can't hold their liquor... Like opening up and being jovial or trying to engage in debate is just going to end up being the match that unnecessarily sparks the powder keg.

I feel like we, as a society are precariously close to critical mass.

In the past few months I've lost friends and family members to the rhetorical divide - so I've circled my wagons, realized that now isn't really the time for talk and am treading very carefully - paying attention to every word said and every reply I offer.

When the feeling of critical mass subsides, if it does, I'll happily order a shot and start trying to be gregarious once again.

Until then... I'm here nearly every day. I read and watch. But I hold my tongue so that I don't inadvertently add any fuel to the fires.

I think ATS needs a lot of these old members, we need people who can cut through all the political crap that is clogging up the site
