I don't know if Trump is in reality cutting the support type of funding for social safety-net programs like Meals-on-Wheels...
they seem to get hot meals to deliver from the Donation by the local Grocery Store deli department....

I think that they serve GM foods to the public

I also think that Trump who is going to sell out some $30 billion in petroleum reserves fro the nations' emergency reserve should be targeting some of that cash to the vans of social services NGOs like the 'Meals-on-Wheels' I mentioned earlier to defray their costs of the free voluntary service those NGO's provide to home-bound elderly or disabled persons...
(I qualified for meal delivery for about 5 years of my recovery... but after I gained strength by pushing my manual wheelchair to the community postal-boxes instead of riding my electric wheelchair the same 13 house distance for about 2 years...I decided to get a network of people to take me to the grocery stores for micro-wave foods)

the dam Syrian refugee, 25 year old males, that number in the 10's of thousands... scattered all over the sanctuary cities everywhere by the dastardly potus #44 called Obama... now those kind of persons get unrestricted aid from the Feds and the poor-elderly-Americans get the shaft..... TOTALLY BOGUS CRAP...imho

I will prosper bigly on Trump Wall. LLC, vendors license, office already in place. Your tax dollars will be part of my profit...LOL

You missed my point... Your post was a flame against Trump taking away your vet benefits. All I asked was what are you losing as part of that benefit, and whether you know if you are losing or gaining under Trump....

You are not the only vet here, so do your research and compare the POS as you say to the 8 years under Obama as far as vet benefits go.

Oh BTW your tax dollar too my friend...

Lol

I'm much more concerned about my brothers in arms benefits than my own.

LOL....I don't pay taxes anymore. That's the benefit of being incorporated, I even write off my dog food. I get a refund; took a few business workshops to learn the loopholes just like the big boys. I grew my business and prospered under Obama and will do the same under Trump. Doin, business the American way....Believe me.

I probably give more to charity organizations than you gross...lol

I see we have another thread of "keep agreeing to spend more of other people's money or else you don't care" discussion going on.

When can we move the discussion away from paying more taxes to kicking lazy people off welfare who don't need it if they'd just get off their asses and put in some work? Plenty of money right there to pay for people who really need help.

Without that weekly cash injection into the economy, that is what you know as welfare, the entire economy would crash.... Be careful what you wish for.

You are saying that if people who are fit to work and don't need benefits have to get jobs instead of handouts that the economy collapses?

The money received from the OAA is a small and shrinking portion of the funds received by Meals on Wheels.

The Meals on Wheels program I work for depends on numerous fundraisers throughout the year, donations and memorial money, not federal funding. We tell the clients during the intake process that while we can't turn anyone 60 years or older away because we receive OAA money, we do ask them to donate towards the cost of their meals as they are able.

There is a SMALL portion of clients receiving funding for their meals through the County, and a larger number who don't pay anything at all.

Well first, no you don't... and second, you sound like a teenager and FOS. I too do well no matter what president is in office...if that is truly the case with you.

So back to my point, if you are doing so well what is up with your flaming post about losing your vet benefits? It is obvious you don't even know what you might lose or gain under Trump...just another whinny lefty I guess with no clue to what they are whining about.

I have the full thing of retired, disabled vet, purple heart etc... I really don't use any of it though and I can tell you being in the service under 6 Presidents I only did well under the Republicans, so we will just wait and see how this turns out under Trump, but it wasn't so hot now was it under Obama, or Clinton, or Carter...lol

Give me a break...You sure you are not in high school still...no offence to the high schoolers..

I must admit I am having trouble reconciling his joy at a "right winger" having cancer, his concern for vet benefits, and his pride at not paying taxes. Quite the garbled message.

All Trump hating aside I believe it is important to stop and think about this: When exactly did we decide that caring for our elderly relatives was no longer our own responsibility and that the government should be the ones responsible for their care? Many years ago I cleaned houses for a living and several elderly people were part of my clientel and most of them had deliveries from Meals on Wheels and such not because they couldn't afford food but because they were taking advantage of the freebies. There were some whose houses I cleaned for free (those who really could not afford food) but for the most part their children and grandchildren could well afford to help them with groceries but were too busy going on expensive trips and building vacation houses to bother with their elders.

In most cultures people take great pride in caring for the elders who have cared for them but somehow in America this was lost. It seems a few other countries have started to see this trend also as a few Asian countries have actually had to pass laws to force people to care for their elders. What has become of us as human beings that we shirk our responsibilities toward those whom we owe everything? And yet here we are complaining and blaming the government for our own failings once again!

There are many Americans, even right here on ATS, that leave me with the impression that non-Americans are more important than Americans regarding every aspect of existing on this planet. For instance, many of these folks I refer to believe with all their hearts and minds that someone in the US illegally should be treated better as well as being afforded all the rights and privileges of actual citizens - especially if those citizens are politically opposite or not-the-right-religion to these Americans who prefer non-Americans to Americans.

It's sad that a lack of education, a weak mind and lots of belief in state sanctioned propaganda leads these folks to think that citizens should be kicked-out so non-citizens can take their place.

With the USA, the Mexican youth are the largest increasing demographic in high schools. In less than a decade they will be the majority group. Thus, the Democrats wanted to capitalize on this by showering them with riches, milk and honey and all sorts of goodies like a free college education. All paid for by the wealthy whites through high taxes, mostly because there is a higher percentage of senior citizens.
www.childtrends.org...

This is a similar situation in the UK. In the 1980's, the Conservatives managed to break the militant unions and get the country working. They privatized all the state run industries (British Telecom, British Steel, British Airways) and sold off the shares to the British public. They also allowed families to buy their own council homes. The traditional working class of plumbers, builders, joiners, roofers, self-employed business owners then started becoming wealthy. Labour were furious that the old socialist lines of "let me take that burden off your shoulders and share our misery together, brother"
didn't work. So they had to bring in a new class of poor to vote for them.

I would say let those Americans who feel that way live a week or two as a homeless person on the streets of America, and see if they still feel that way.

Well this goes hand and hand with the GOP's healthcare plan for the elderly.
1.Don't get sick.
2. If you get sick die quickly.

Sounds like the ObamaCare mantra.

Yep, the left ignore the fact that premiums increased exponentially under ObamaCare, more than 120% in AZ.

Yeah it's sad that some think the government should do what they are unwilling to do themselves. My mother will be 75 this year. She still works part time because she isn't the type to sit at home in a rocking chair and watch soap operas. Most of her friends are associated in some way with her job or church. I'm glad she's active. I know she will never be on the street or go hungry, because she will always have a place with someone in the family. She would likely drive us crazy but she would still be welcome to live with us. LOL

I do feel there should be some support for those that have no relatives. Not sure what the numbers are on that, I mean really? How many people have absolutely no living relatives? I'm sure there are some. In fact I know there are some. I just have no idea what percentage of the elderly fall into that category.

Continuing to that end, as someone somewhat already mentioned, it is for this that Social Security was supposed to be used. It obviously failed. Those across the pond may not understand how little of our Social Security program goes toward social security. The less in the hands of our federal government, the better.
